Daily Bread
by Michael Mancha
I remember this story in the Bible of God sending manna (food)
from heaven to the people of Israel as they made their way
through the desert to the Promised Land. He told them they were
to take only one day's worth of food for each person in the house
- no more and no less. And they were to eat it all, leaving
nothing for the morning.
So the people went out and gathered, but some of them didn't eat
all they had. They left some for the next day, and in the morning
it was rotten and filled with worms.
I wonder sometimes why they left some manna after they were told
not to. I can only think that maybe they didn't trust that God
would actually provide more the next day. Maybe they felt they
had to take matters into their own hands and care for themselves.
Fast forward 1,500 years, and you have the disciples walking with
Jesus and asking Him to teach them to pray. This is what He said:
"Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come.
Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day
our daily bread" (Matthew 6:9-11).
Wait, did He just say ... "our daily bread"? Did Jesus make a
connection back to the Old Testament manna?
He did!
But I'm still wondering ... what does that really mean? Honestly,
it's still a struggle for me to truly believe what I'm saying
when I ask God to give me daily bread.
The world offers many different ways to meet your needs. For
example, a good job. If you work hard, you'll earn a good
paycheck that will, in fact, pay for what you need and even for
things you want. Or an education: If you go to college, study
hard, and get a degree, that can lead to a job, a good paycheck,
and - well, you understand.
When the Israelites were wandering in the desert, they didn't
have other ways of support. It was either God's provision or
nothing. That's probably why they kept extra manna. But in our
generation, if we choose to trust in our job or education, or
even in our parents, instead of in God, we'll probably still have
our needs met.
Asking God to be my provider in a world that offers many other
provisions is tough. It's much easier to go get what I want than
to ask God and wait. What if He says no?
Jesus teaches us a valuable lesson in Matthew 6:
"That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life -
whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to
wear. Isn't life more than food, and your body more than
clothing? Look at the birds. They don't plant or harvest or store
food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren't
you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries
add a single moment to your life?" (vv.25-27, NLT).
Worrying about what they would eat the next day, the children of
Israel took matters in their own hands and failed.
I too have done that. I put my dependence on my paycheck, and
that failed me, too.
Sure, we can provide for ourselves. We can go to school, get a
good job, buy a nice house, and save money. But God wants us to
know that His plan is greater than we can imagine.
And you know what? He knows it's not easy to trust Him when there
are things out there that sound easier. Just try. Ask God to
supply your daily bread and see if what you get isn't better than
what you could have gotten for yourself.

CANADIAN Oil Spill
Now it's the turn of a Canadian company to spill oil into the
environment, which could reach the USA. Many do not realize there
are thousands of miles of oil pipe lines from Canada into the
USA. Millions of gallons of oil come through these pipes each
day, from Canada into the USA. Many of the pipes are 50 years
old. Breaks in these lines will happen, though very rare, yet as
the lines get older, breaks will probably be happening on a more
frequent basis. One such break has happened in the last few
weeks. Once more this should be a sign to help push us away from
all oil use, and into more and more "green" technology. But the
power of oil giants and our addiction it seems to oil, will not
be an easy battle to overcome and depose of. When the Mexico Gulf
oil disaster is under control and BP is victor once more, it will
fade away from the news shows in the main, and no doubt the power
of oil and oil companies will rise up once again, and no doubt
people will go back to sleep, as we continue as before to bathe
in oil. I doubt any Western government (certainly in the USA,
Britain and Canada) has the guts to send oil back into the deep
earth and back under the deep blue sea. If this age continues for
a while yet, oil use will be hard to break its strong-hold on us,
I'm sorry to say.

CALCIUM - too much!
A lot of news shows are poor examples of reporting facts at
times. I tuned in to CBC one evening this past week. They gave a
short report on a report that said calcium pill takers ... well
some could be setting themselves up for strokes and heart-
attacks.
Sounded like ..... throw out those calcium tablets.
It was not until a few days later I heard the full facts on
another news program.
You need about 1200 mg of calcium per day to keep your bones and
teeth in good shape. One glass of milk gives you 300 mg. It is
taking TOO MUCH calcium that puts you in trouble; the saying "too
much good stuff is bad for you" is true in many cases. My Dad was
taking too much vitamin A in food and pills; he had a certain
problem (forgot now what it was), when he cut down on vitamin A
the problem disappeared.
It is when you are taking TOO MUCH calcium the problem arises for
stroke and heart-attacks. As one doctor said on this news
program, if you are not getting enough calcium in your food and
drink diet then you need calcium pills. If you are getting your
1200 mg of calcium in your diet you need not take calcium pills.
Now I'm one of the first group. I do not drink store bought cows
milk. I do use goats milk with my rolled oats breakfast, but that
is about only one glass. I get very little calcium in the rest of
my daily diet. I eat a small diet to keep my body weight down. I
cannot eat like I used to eat, or I would be way overweight. I
try to have a balanced diet, but I do take many vitamin and
mineral pills each day, because I know I do not get the daily
recommended amount in the quantity of food I consume each day.
So "now you know the rest of the story" concerning calcium. The
first news story on the matter did not make sense to me, my gut
feeling was something is not being told to us. The second news
story I heard gave the rest of the story as the late Paul Harvey
would have said.

Oh yes you might have known it, or it was surely to come, we have

and it ain't no secret anymore. Get used to it you departments of
"secret" James Bond secret agents - nothin' ain't secret anymore,
all your dirty laundry will be shown to the world at large. What
goes on behind closed doors as it was in the past ... well those
doors now have the locks open and dirty government cover-ups and
sinister plots and official lies will be open to all to read and
view. So suck it up all you liars and clandestine plot people -
the Internet and Youtube is about to blow you apart.
