SORCERY AND MODERN MEDICINES
WILL PRESCRIPTION DRUGS KEEP YOU OUT OF THE KINGDOM?

THE GREEK WORDS
The word "sorcery" is used once in the NT (New Testament). It is
number 3096 in strong's concordance. It is used in Acts 8:9.
Strong's Con. says: "mag-yoo-o from 3097; to practice magic :-
use sorcery." The context of Acts 8:9 is of one called Simon
BEWITCHING the people of Samaria. It is obvious from the context
that this had nothing to do with "physical medicines" but with
bewitching powers that led people to believe he was "this man is
the great power of God" (Acts 8:10). He could see from the
apostles that the miracle working power of God was even greater
and for selfish reasons wanted some of it. You can see how the
apostle Peter answered him in the follow verses of that chapter.
The word "sorceries" is used 3 times in the NT.
In Acts 8:11 it is number 3095 in Strong's Con. which says: "mag-
i-ah; from 3096, 'magic' :- sorcery." The context is again the
same as above.
Rev.9:21 and 18:23 the Greek word is #5331 in Strong's Con. which
says: "far-mak-i-ah; from 5332; medication ('parmacy'), i.e. (by
extension) magic (lit.or fig.) :- sorcery, witchcraft."
In Rev.18:22 Babylon is said to have deceived all nation by her
"sorceries." It's one of the reasons she is destroyed by God. And
in her was found the blood of prophets and saints. I do not think
very many will understand her sorceries to be "pharmacy drugs" -
the end time Babylon does not have a monopoly on prescription
drugs. But the Babylon Roman Beast power, has over the centuries
killed God's true prophets and saints, and she has with her
SPIRITUAL (figurative) sorceries bewitched the world with many
false teachings and traditions.
Hence also in Rev.9:21, it is not "pharmaceutical drugs" the
world will not give up, but it is all the wrong and false and
deceptive doctrines of demons (as Paul once said would mushroom
in the last days - 1 Timothy 4:1-5), that they would not repent
from believing and practicing.
The word "sorcerers" is used 2 times in the NT. Rev.21:8; where
the Greek word is #5332 in Strong's Con. which says: "far-mak-
yoos; from pharmakon (a drug, i.e. spell-giving potion); a
drugist ('pharmacist') or poisoner, i.e. (by extens.) a magician
:- sorcerer."
Note: by extension, in other words taking the "principal" of the
effect of the word, it can be understood as meaning spell-binding
people; deception so deep it is like not being in your right
mind; it is being consumed by false doctrines and practices that
you can not or will not give them up; deceptions or doctrines of
demons that you will not repent of believing and following.
Rev.22:15 uses the Greek word #5333 in Strong's Con. which says:
"far-mak-os; the same as 5332 :- sorcerer."
The Greek word for "witchcraft" in Gal.5:20 is also #5331 in
Strong's Con. See above under Rev.9:21 and 18:23.
ARE we seeing here that God is AGAINST "pharmaceutical
prescription drugs" - so much so that all who prescribe them and
use them, will not be in the Kingdom of God? Well, let's not
rush off, hold your horses as they say, and as God says, "Come
let us reason together says the Lord." Let's use some knowledge
and some logic as we proceed.
The word "sorcerer" is used 2 times in the NT. In Acts 13:6 and
13:8; it is the Greek word #3097 in Strong's Con. which says:
"magos; of for. or. (7238); a Magian, i.e. Oriental scientist; by
impl. a magician :- sorcerer, wise man."
Again it could have a possible good or bad connotation connected
to it. The context used in, would tell you the positive or
negative connotation intended. In Acts 13 the context is clearly
a BAD connotation - a false prophet, that was a sorcerer -
magician of whatever sort who was according to Paul, not only a
false prophet, but was against Paul and Barnabas, who was full of
subtilty, all mischief, a child of the devil, and enemy of all
righteousness, and one that perverted the right ways of the Lord.
So, with all this in mind, we need to be careful with Greek words
that can have a literal or figurative meaning. We should not be
hasty to jump to a conclusion that is not warranted or that God
never intended for us to jump to.
SORCERY
The English word "sorcery" for most English speaking people will
immediately take its natural frame of mind, as brought up in an
English framework of life and literature. It will bring to the
English mind, witches, witch-doctors, crystal ball fortune-
tellers, wizards, spell-binders, and all the people who work with
enchantments, smoke, strange mixers of liquids, fire, darkness,
chanters of strange words and verses etc.
We English minded/raised people have little trouble thinking what
the word "sorcerer" or "sorcery" means in practical terms. It is
someone who is caught up in the strange world of demons and
invisible spirits. It is someone who in mind-set and practice is
far from the truths and practices of the living and true God. If
we think about it, all people who will not admit they are
believing and living in various ways in a life style that is
false and hence, the bottom line, "demonic" - is a "sorcerer" -
is someone who lives and practices various forms of the false
deceptive doctrines of demons. Anything that is contrary to the
truth of God is in fact "demonic" in nature, though we do not
like to think of it in those terms. The polite way to put it is
"blinded to truth" - "deceived, but sincerely deceived." But the
simple truth of the matter is that anything we believe and hold
dear to us, which we will not depart from in mind and practice,
and is NOT the truth of God, is demonic and hence sorcery,
mentally a drug potion or poison that has control over our minds
and life. Such a person who will not admit and give up such
sorcery (and that sorcery can vary in form depending in the
culture we are raised in) CANNOT possibly be given eternal life
in God's Kingdom!
THE LEXICONS ON GREEK WORDS OF THE NT
All Greek NT lexicons will end up telling you basically the same
thing. I will give you what Dr.Vine had to say on the word
"sorcery."

B. Verb
'mageuo 93096) akin to A, No.2, 'to practice magic,' Acts 8:9,
'used sorcery,' is used as in A, No.2, of Simon Magus.

TRANSLATIONS
Just about all translations like the KJV will give you
"sorcerers" in Rev 20:8 and 22:15.
The NIV gives "those who practice magic arts" in both places.
The Every Day Bible "those who do evil magic" in both places.
The Pashita Bible by Lamsa (from ancient Eastern MMS) gives
"magician" in both places. Obviously evil false magicians is
meant.
The Amplified Bible has "those who practice sorceries (magic
arts) in Rev.22:15 and "the practicers of magic arts" in
Rev.20:8.
The Complete Jewish Bible by Stern has "those involved with the
occult and with drugs" in both places.
The note given in the Companion Bible on 20:8 says, "Pharmakeus.
Only here and in 22:15 (pharmakos). See 9:21; 18:23 and Gal. 5:20
(witchcraft). Those who have commerce with evil spirits, as
modern 'Spiritualists.' Occ. in Septuagint."
Here is what ALBERT BARNES has to say on the matter. His comments
are found in his commentary on Galatians 5:20

Witchcraft. Pretending to witchcraft. The apostle does not vouch
for the actual existence of witchcraft; but he says that what was
known as such was a proof of the corrupt nature of man, and was
one of the fruits of it. No one can doubt it. It was a system of
imposture and falsehood throughout; and nothing is a better
demonstration of the depravity of the human heart than an
extended and systematized attempt to impose on mankind.
The word which is here used, .... whence our word 'pharmacy',
from ... a medicine, poison, magic potion, means, properly the
preparing and giving of medicine. Then it means also poisoning,
and also magic arts, or enchantments; because of savage nations,
pharmacy or medicine consisted much in magical incantations.
Thence it means sorcery or enchantment, and it is so used
uniformly in the New Testament. It is used only in Gal.5:20;
Rev.9:21; 18:23; 21:8. Some have supposed that it means here
'poisoning' a crime often practiced; but the more correct
interpretation is, to refer it to the black art, or to
pretensions to witchcraft, and the numerous delusions which have
grown out of it, as a striking illustration of the corrupt and
depraved nature of man.

OLD TESTAMENT
The word "sorcerers" appears 4 times in the OT (Old Testament).
In Ex.7:11 it is #3784 in Strong's Con. as also in Dan.2:2 and
Mal.3:5.
Strong say: "kaw-shaf; a prim. root; prop. to whisper a spell,
i.e. to inchant or practice magic :- sorcerer,, (use) witch (-
craft)."
Jer.27:9 is #3786 in Strong's Con. which says "kash-shawf; from
3784, a magician :- a sorcerer."
The word "sorceries" is used 2 times in the OT; Isa.47:9,12. In
both cases it is word #3785 in Strong's Con. which say "keh-shef;
from 3784; magic :- sorcery, witchcraft."
IS GOD INTO THE MODERN PHARMACY INDUSTRY?
I think all will have to say that God created us to be in health.
His desire was for us to be healthy. He gave us a good clean
world, a healthy natural world in the beginning. He gave us
plenty of healthy natural foods to eat to help us maintain a
strong healthy body and mind. He set down the laws of health,
told us through the children of Israel especially the clean and
un-clean foods, which were the good ones to eat for health, and
which were the bad ones to avoid, that would through time and
generations, lessen the health of our bodies. He knew we could
find out on our own, that full rest and sleep and exercise, was
also a very important part to a healthy body.
Certain plants He knew we wound find out, could help us in
various ways, like the Aloe plant, for the healing of cuts and
wounds. The mighty Alexander the Great of Greece, would send men
many miles to bring back the aloe plant for use on his soldier's
wounds.
I well remember as a kid growing up in Britain, there was a
"stinging nettle" that if your bare skin touched it, you got a
very red and painful stinging burn that you would have for an
hour or so. But there was another leafy plant that grew next to
this stinging plant, and if you rubbed your sting with its
leaves, the sting would disappear within seconds. Kinda neat
right, you bet!
We can know that certain physical plants, trees, leaves, can
either by themselves or put together, be good for us. Ah, but we
can also come to know that these physical things put together
wrongly or even by themselves, can cause us harm, even killing
us.
I believe God is consistent throughout His word in what the
sorcery is, literally and figuratively, that will keep people out
of His Kingdom. And I do not believe it is anything to do with
our modern pharmacy industries.
Here's why I say this. The Bible is SILENT on the use of certain
things being put together for healing our bodies. I will also
use some common logic.
The natural medicine people will say we need to go "natural" with
putting "herbs" together for our healing. Yet, if you have
watched any documentary program on "herb medicine" (the skilled
people doing this profession can also take up to 7 years to
obtain their degree, I talked to one personally, and that's what
he told me) health, you will understand that putting "herbs"
together CAN be a DANGEROUS skill, that if mistakes are made can
not only harm you (so here we go with side-effect) but could even
KILL you!!
So, herb-medicine just ain't as simple as some think it is or who
are led to believe it is.
That is fact number one.
Fact number two is: modern prescription medicine STILL TODAY
obtains about 50% of its prescribed whatever .... FROM NATURAL
PLANTS etc. (that's what was said on a documentary program I
watched on TV a few years ago; some could argue this, but it
really makes little difference in what is "sorcery" that will
keep you out of the Kingdom of God).
Now, let's use some logic. Are we to say then that all "herb
medicines" are approved by God, while only HALF of modern
prescribed medicine is approved by God, or any other percentage
you want to us?
Then, let's go one step further. If this be the case up-above, is
God taking notes of every "modern prescribed medicine, and WHO is
prescribing it" so he can tally up the score of sins against no
sin. Putting it in other terms: Is God looking down and saying to
the "modern doctor or pharmacy person" "Ah, I see you have
prescribed a medicine from 'natural' sources, so a gold star for
you for that one." Then later, looking at the same person and
saying, "Oh, you have prescribed an un-natural, man-made chemical
prescription ... a black mark for that."
Does God then TALLY up all the gold stars and black marks to see
which in the end adds up to be a "sorcerer" or not, and who
enters the Kingdom and who does not, based on "medicine"
prescribed?
What about the one taking the medicine? Does he or she get the
same watchful eye from the Lord, to see if it's natural or man-
made, or chemical? How on earth can the average person figure it
all out anyway, unless they stick to only the herb medicine
industry? Does God look upon all this as SPIRITUAL SIN? Is the
taking of whatever medicine for whatever ails you, in the realm
of spiritual sin, that can keep you out of the Kingdom of God?
Well the way that some may look at Revelation 21:8 and 22:15,
they would have to say it is so!
I DO NOT BELIEVE GOD IS INTO OUR POLITICS (if he is then you who
voted for McCain and the Republicans in the 2008 USA election,
just voted against God) AND I DO NOT BELIEVE GOD IS INTO OUR
MEDICINE FROM WHATEVER PER SE!
I DO NOT BELIEVE REV.21:8; 22:15; GAL.5:20; IS TALKING ABOUT
ANYTHING ELSE OTHER THAN WHAT GOD HAS TALKED ABOUT FROM THE
BEGINNING! THAT THOSE WHO ARE INTO BLACK MAGIC, THE OCCULT, THE
DABBLING WITH FAMILIAR SPIRITS. THOSE INTO POTIONS AND POISONS OF
DRINKS AND INCANTATIONS AND THE WORLD OF THE WIZARD AND WITCH,
AND THOSE WHO WILL NOT REPENT AND GIVE UP, THE FALSEHOOD THAT IS
THE DOCTRINE OF DEMONS .... THOSE PEOPLE WHO WILL NOT SEE THE
EVIL OF CRYSTAL-BALL GAZING, TEA-CUP LEAF READING, PALM OF THE
HANDS READING, HORROR-SCOPE STAR READING TO SET YOUR LIFE BY, AND
ALL ELSE THAT THE COMMON PERSON KNOWS AS TO WHAT IS MEANT BY THE
WORD "SORCERY" - SUCH PEOPLE WITH THAT MIND-SET, AND WHO WILL NOT
REPENT OF IT, WILL NOT GET INTO THE KINGDOM OF GOD. NOW THAT
TRUTH MAKES THE WORD "SORCERY" IN REVELATION 21 AND 22, MUCH
BROADER THAN PRESCRIPTION MEDICINE.
Over and over again in the books of Moses, God warned Israel
about "sorcery" - witchcraft - trying to contact the unseen world
of spirits, the enchanter, the witch-doctor with his potions and
spells and drinks of blood or whatever. Now THAT was sin, and
came under the DEATH penalty! And God has not changed THAT law,
it will be a death penalty law to the very end.
Secondly, that law is covering the law of the mind-set that will
NOT denounce the teachings and doctrines of demons, as the
apostle Paul put it. Every nation has doctrines of demons; that
which is not the truth of God. Jesus said concerning the Father,
"Thy WORD is truth." You may grow up in a certain nation, and
that nation may have certain teachings and traditions that are
different than the next nation, large or small differences. You
have a set of beliefs that are contrary to the truth of God. Your
set of beliefs and practices may be different from another person
in another country. But wherever you are, you have to one day
renounce and give up believing and practicing the doctrines of
demons, anything that is contrary to God's truth revealed in His
word.
By the Lord using this one word "sorcery" He was COVERING every
person in every country on this planet earth. All nations are
under DECEPTION of one form or another. All people who shall
enter the Kingdom of God must be willing to COME OUT OF whatever
sorcery deception they have been held in, in whatever country
they live in, whatever demonic deception they have been deceived
into accepting.
PRESCRIPTION MEDICINE AND AIDS?
I will use one overall world example. SOME people get HIV/AIDS by
being innocent, no specific fault of their own. I'm sure you can
think of examples without me giving you any. Now let's suppose
you are 28 years old and through no fault of your own you have
contracted HIV which leads to AIDS. You want to live as long as
is possible, you want to yet accomplish something in life, to
serve others and leave behind a slogan "It was good that you were
here and that we knew you." Now, today the prescription medical
world can give you all kinds of pills, many of them, and some to
counter that pill and this pill. It's a dozen or more bottles of
pills these people must take every day. But it has been proved
over many years now, that THIS DOES give you extra years of life.
It is not the cure for AIDS; that disease still eventually kills
you. Yet you can have more years of life if you take all those
pills, than if you do not; on the average whole this is true.
Is it SIN for a person to take those prescription pills? Will it
keep them out of the Kingdom of God? I DO NOT THINK SO!!
We are talking about a physical body and doing what you can in a
way that you can to offset the pain etc. that not doing that
physical thing would bring upon you. And I do not think God is
taking notes or putting down "check" marks for "natural" as
opposed to "un-natural" if you could even figure it all out,
which most of us cannot do anyway. You do the best you can with
whatever is there, still using wisdom in it all. I'm sure not
saying you do not check things out, search things out. I'm not
teaching you have blind faith in anyone or any medical or herbal
profession. Many have had blind faith and got into even more
serious health problems.
MY EXAMPLE
As I write this in November of 2008, I am 66 years old. I have
from a teenager been into the "health and strength" way of life,
from the old Charles Atlas course on health and strength to
reading many books on the subject from Health Food stores. I have
been very careful with my diet, eating the variety of fruits,
nuts, vegetables, whole grains, soya milk, cooking with olive oil
or canola oil, and have taken vitamin and mineral supplements all
my life from about age 13. I have followed in the footsteps of my
Dad who has done the same; he is 88 today and still doing very
well. I have also done what very few men do, I have used cream
and oil on my face every day. Today at age 66, people guess my
age at between 45 and 50. The doctors and hospital nurses guess
my Dad's age at about 70, and cannot believe he is 88.
I make sure I have at least 8 hours sleep a day, and get good
exercise. I keep active and can ride my horse like as good as
many 30 year old people.
In 1985 I started to get on a basic regular path, of canker sores
in my mouth. They can grow to be the size of a dime, painful and
of course unpleasant to eat food. I tried EVERYTHING in the
"natural health books" I could find. After nearly 3 years I went
to the modern medical world to seek what they might have to
eradicate canker sores. I was told they had no "magic bullet" to
cast them out of my system, but did have a prescription paste to
STOP 'em dead in their tracks when first coming. I apply the
paste on the coming canker sore at night as I go to bed. AND IT
WORKS!! Yes, it really does, they are killed off as they appear
and never do develop. I've used that prescription paste ever
since. I still get them coming from time to time 23 three years
later from the time they first started.
The side effects of this paste is only one, a slight thinning of
your bodies skin. You would never know that to look at my skin,
but that is what they say is the side effect.
I can live with a slightly thinner skin but yet unnoticeable my
me or you. I do not know how it is made, and I frankly do not
care. It works, and makes my life with canker sores a blessing,
if I have to have them coming at me.
Will I be kept out of the Kingdom of God for using a prescription
paste from the modern medical world? I DO NOT BELIEVE SO!! I do
not believe Rev.21:8 and 22:15 and "sorcery" is talking about
prescription whatever from the medical world.
About 8 years ago, at age 58, I came down with INSOMNIA, a common
ailment with some as you get older. I was not able to get to
sleep until about 2:30 to 3:00 a.m. in the night. No "natural"
whatever I tried worked. An older couple I knew said I needed to
get the prescription sleeping pill they used. They told me it
worked like this: it help you get to sleep, but wears off in your
system after 4 hours, when then you are in your deep sleep, and
when you wake up after 8 hours sleep, there is no after effects.
I checked it out with the medical world and they agreed it was
so. That pill had been around for decades they told me. Like any
medicine, with some people there can be side effect. With me
there is none at all that anyone can detect.
It has been shown that this old standard sleeping pill DOES HAVE
bad effects on SOME people. Some doctors here in Canada will not
prescribe it any more. Because I have used it for 8 years with NO
negative side effects, my doctor is still willing to prescribe it
for me.
Will I miss out on the Kingdom of God because I take a
prescription medicine from the modern medical world? I DO NOT
THINK SO!! I do not believe Rev.21:8 and Rev. 22:15 with the word
"sorcery" is talking about modern medicine from the modern
medical world!
About 6 years ago I started to get RHEUMATISM in my knees, going
up to my right side groin. I went to my doctor, and told her. I
mentioned my Dad had it at my age, and that is what he thinks it
is. She was polite and said, "Keith we will have to take an "x"
ray to see if it is not ARTHRITIS you may have." The "x" ray was
taken and when I went back to her she said, "Well I guess you and
your Dad are correct, you certainly do NOT have arthritis."
Rheumatism effects the MUSCLES, and she knew this. She said,
"Keith I want you to try a new prescription pill, it is for
relaxing the muscles, you take it an hour or so before bedtime."
I told her I was willing to try it.
When I got the pills from the Pharmacy and I read the possible
side effects, I was very reluctant to take it. The discomfort
from the rheumatism was not like a toothache by any means, but it
was annoying and a discomfort. I decided to "TRY" this new pill
from the modern medical world. I have NO SIDE effects from it.
AND IT WORKS!! I've been taking it ever since. As long as I take
it I have no unpleasant rheumatism in my knees and right groin
area.
Will I not get into the Kingdom of God because I take
prescription pills and paste (for canker sores now and again when
they start to come) from the modern medical world? I DO NOT THINK
SO!!
I do not believe Rev.21:8 and 22:15 is talking about the modern
medical world of prescription anything.
If I got side effects from the 3 prescriptions I'm taking would I
stop taking them, SURE I WOULD, but then there is usually another
prescription medicine within the same area field to try and see
if that works for you without side effects. In my case I've hit
the bulls eye each time; no side effects with two, and a thinning
of the skin which is un-noticed by you or me, with the third.
BUYER BEWARE!
I certainly am not trying to teach you put yourself into the
hands of anyone, be it modern medical doctor or modern herbalist,
with BLIND FAITH! Some have done on both sides of the fence, and
have caused themselves more harm than they started out with. You
need to do your homework on whatever ails you. Everything today
(with some things that shouldn't be) is on the Internet! You can
do your own research, get all sides of the picture, get 2 or 3
opinions from whoever is supposed to be the "experts"
(remembering that it can be that "ex" is an unknown quantity, and
"spert" is a drip under pressure) on the matter.
GOD IS NOT INTO POLITICS AND GOD IS NOT INTO THE MODERN MEDICAL
WORLD PER SE! HE CAN AND STILL DOES ***AT TIMES*** ACCORDING TO
HIS WILL, HEAL VIA A MIRACLE! THEN AT OTHER TIMES HE LETS MAN
FIGURE OUT FROM WHATEVER IS BEFORE HIM HOW TO COMBAT PHYSICAL
AILMENTS, WITH THE PERSON HAVING THE AILMENT ALWAYS BEING WISE,
AND NEVER HAVING BLIND FAITH IN ANYONE OR ANYTHING. THAT IS HOW
GOD EXPECTS YOU TO BE WITH SPIRITUAL RELIGIOUS MATTERS ALSO -
NEVER PUT BLIND FAITH INTO A MAN OR AN ORGANIZATION. DO YOUR
HOMEWORK IN ALL MATTERS PERTAINING TO THIS LIFE, BE IT PHYSICAL
OR SPIRITUAL!
SORCERY THAT WILL KEEP YOU OUT OF THE KINGDOM OF GOD HAS NOTHING
TO DO WITH PHYSICAL PRESCRIPTION ANYTHING. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO
WITH MODERN MEDICINE BE IT THE MODERN DOCTOR OR THE MODERN
HERBALIST. TO BE SURE THERE CAN BE PHYSICAL DANGER IN EITHER
PROFESSION AS WELL AS PHYSICAL GOOD. BUT SORCERY THAT KEEPS YOU
OUT OF THE KINGDOM IS
A MUCH MORE SERIOUS MATTER, AND A MUCH MUCH BROADER SUBJECT THAN
WHAT GOES INTO YOUR BODY IN ANY PHYSICAL WAY.
AND FOR THE RECORD, I ALSO BELIEVE THAT A HEALTHY BODY WAS
CREATED TO WITHSTAND AND COUNTER THE SO-CALLED TOXINS CONTAINED
IN MODERN AVERAGE, LET ME GIVE EMPHASIS TO ***AVERAGE*** WORLD OF
SYNTHETICS IN MAN MADE PLASTIC, PAINTS, CARPETS, SYNTHETIC
CLOTHES AND APPLIANCES LIKE COMPUTERS ETC. AS WITH ANYTHING, IF
OVER USED (EVEN SOME VITAMINS OVERUSED CAUSE TOXIC EFFECTS IN THE

THE CONSUMER) MAN INDUCED CHEMICALS INTO ANYTHING. THEY ARE
USUALLY DETECTED BY THE WORLD SOONER OR LATER, AND BANNED!
UNFORTUNATELY IT IS NOT BEFORE SOME ARE INJURED IN HEALTH OR
SADLY EVEN KILLED BY THE GREED OF MEN, WHO ARE ONLY CONCERNED
WITH FILLING THEIR POCKETS WITH MONEY, AND NOT THE HEALTH OF MEN,
WOMEN, OR CHILDREN.
AS YOUR BODY IS THE TEMPLE OF GOD, YOU SHOULD FULLY RESPECT IT
AND KEEP IT IN GOOD SHAPE BY THE WAY YOU PHYSICALLY LIVE. YOU
SHOULD TRY TO LIVE AS HEALTHY AS YOU CAN WITHIN YOUR SITUATION IN
LIFE AND WITH THE WHERE-WITH-ALL THAT GOD HAS GIVEN YOU.
