Festivals of the Lord in Typology #12

Many Layers of Meaning

                      TYPOLOGY PART TWO
                     THE PERSON AND WORK
                       OF JESUS CHRIST
                          PENTECOST
The following is taken from the book "The Feats of the Lord"
by Robert Thompson, pages 128-133, first published in 1975 by
Omega Publications, Medford, OR. All capital lettering for
emphasis is by myself, Keith Hunt.
PENTECOST
" Christ Himself is the fulfillment of the convocation of
Pentecost. The word Christ (Messiah) means ANOINTED WITH OIL. The
Lord Jesus was anointed with oil of the HOLY SPIRIT by the
Father, signifying that He is to serve as King and High Priest
before God. In the OT (Old Testament) we find that the priests
and the vessels of the Tabernacle of the Congregation were
ANOINTED with the holy oil. Also, it was the custom to anoint a
king upon his installation to office. The Lord Jesus is the one
who has the seven Spirits of God - He has the Spirit of God
without measure......
The Lord Jesus is the fulfillment of the LAMPSTAND of the
Tabernacle of the Congregation. Through Christ (Messiah) the
Spirit of God brings the REVELATION of God among men. He is the
LIGHT of the world......He is in us, and therefore we are the
ENLARGEMENT of Him, the 'fullness of Him that fills all in all'
(Eph. 1: 23).
When the Lord Jesus stood before John the Baptist, the
Spirit of God came down like a dove upon Him. The Spirit of God
has never come down to rest as a dove upon anyone other than the
Lord Jesus. When the Holy Spirit came down upon the disciples,
fifty days after the resurrection of Christ, the Spirit was not
in the form of a dove but rather in the form of flames of fire.
The reason for the difference is that the peace of God is in
Christ, since Christ is without sin; therefore the Holy Spirit
can rest gently upon Him. But the Holy Spirit comes down as fire
upon the church, because the church has sin and must still
undergo the judgment of God.
When Jesus stood up in the synagogue to read, He opened the
scroll of Israel to the most pointed reference .....He began to
read:
'The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord
hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he
hath sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim
liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to
     them who are bound' (Isa.61:1).
'This day,' He said, 'this Scripture is fulfilled in your
ear.' The anointing of God rests upon Jesus as upon on other
person......
Christ is the anointed Deliverer (Messiah) who is to deliver
Israel; who is to sit upon the throne of David, and set up the
kingdom of God in the earth......
The most important ceremony of the Levitical convocation of
Pentecost was the waving of the two large loaves of bread before
the Lord (according to what some have calculated the amount of
flour grain used for those two loaves, each bread loaf would have
been about 3" thick by 12" wide by 21" long - Keith Hunt). The
bread was baked from the finest of flour, and signalled the
completion of the harvest of the wheat......(various types have
been put forth as to why two loaves. Some say it represented the
Jew and Gentile in Christ, others say the old and new Covenants,
some say the two loaves represent the children of God under the
Old Testament and the children of God under the New Testament. It
is very possible the two loaves represent all the above in type -
Keith Hunt).......
.....the disciples.....had to wait until Jesus ascended to
the Father before the Spirit who abode upon Jesus could be poured
out upon His disciples. When the Lord took of the Spirit which
was upon Moses and gave it to the seventy elders, they
'prophesied, and did not cease' (Num.11:25). When the Holy Spirit
came from Jesus down to the waiting disciples, they also
prophesied and did not cease......
Christ is the FULLNESS of the Holy Spirit in bodily form,
and He lived among men. Now He has ascended to the Father, and
the Holy Spirit has been shed abroad upon all who receive the
atonement made through the blood of God's Lamb, and who enter
into the water of baptism in His name. By the one Holy Spirit we
all are baptized into the body of Christ......
Interesting enough, the new covenant fulfillment of
Pentecost, as recorded in the book of Acts, marks the birthday of
the Christian church. Although that fact is not always stressed,
the giving of the Holy Spirit to the Christian church is the
giving of God's law to the Christian church. The Holt Spirit is
the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus. It is God's will
that each and every Christian walk in the strictest obedience to
the Holy Spirit......
Nowhere is the association between the Holy Spirit and the
law of God seen more clearly than in the Person of the Lord Jesus
Christ. Christ observed perfectly every last jot and tittle of
the law of Moses, and also every particle of the law of the
Spirit of life. The law of the Spirit is the law of the kingdom
of God, which can be kept only through the ability which the
Spirit Himself gives. It is much more penetrating and demanding
than the law of Moses, as anyone can observe by reading the fifth
through seventh chapters of the Gospel of matthew. Anyone who
entertains lust in his heart towards a member of the opposite sex
is guilty of adultery, whereas the law of Moses dealt only with
the act itself.
Jesus Christ lived a holy, righteous, blameless life. He did
so in the power and wisdom of the Holy Spirit of God.....
Pentecost, as we said earlier, is to be a season of
REJOICING. There is great JOY and HAPPINESS associated with the
Lord Jesus Christ. No doubt there have been few men who had
had to live with the continual abstinence and perversity which He
endured continually....He lived with the cross always before His
face. Yet, there is tremendous JOY about the Lord Jesus.
Jesus was a man of HAPPINESS, PEACE, JOY, CONTENTMENT....It
is true that we are called upon to endure hardness as good
soldiers of Jesus Christ, but these tribulations are as nothing
when He is around. Christ is God's JOY, God's SONG, God's season
of REJOICING in the earth. Sin is always accompanied sooner or
later by gloom, despair, and the piercing pangs of remorse and
grief. But the Lord Jesus is always accompanied by uplifting JOY,
a song of the soul and SPIRIT that lifts us up until we are
walking in the days of heaven upon the earth.
The Lord Jesus is our JOY. He breaks every chain that keeps
us down. In Him we mount up and soar with eagle's wings; we walk
with hind's feet. In the darkness of night, on the stormiest and
deepest of turbulent waters, we dance on, singing in happy trust,
skipping towards the city that radiates light in a rainbow of
heavenly colors. "
End of quotes from the book "The Feasts of the Lord" by
Robert Thompson.
Yes, all of the MIGHT, all of the POWER, all of the FRUITS
and the GIFTS of the SPIRIT, all of the PERFECTNESS, all of the
HOLINESS, all of the SOUND-MINDEDNESS, all of the VERY NATURE of
God the Father Himself that is manifest in the Holy Spirit, which
came in a special way on that great Feast of Pentecost as
recorded in Acts chapter two, is FULFILLED in the anointed one,
the MESSIAH, the CHRIST.
This one called JESUS the CHRIST, is the Pentecost in
fulfillment. He is the GLORY, the POWER, the MIGHT, and the
PERFECT HOLY IMAGE of the Holy Father in heaven, who is Spirit
(John 4: 24).
And all who are HIS, must worship the Father in Spirit and
in Truth, for the Father seeks such to worship Him (John 4: 23).
