Keith Hunt - THE TRUTH OF LUKE Restitution of All Things

THE TRUTH OF LUKE 23:54 AND WHEN JESUS WAS
                           PLACED IN THE TOMB

People have been reading the KJV for centuries. The
translators of the KJV were men holding in mind and practice to
the Easter tradition - Friday to Sunday morning death and
resurrection of Christ. In reading their rendition of the Greek
as found in Luke 23:54 the clear teaching from the English is
that the Sabbath was still TO COME, was still a yet FUTURE event
when all the things in the surrounding verses were being done.
That is, begging for the body of Jesus, taking it down, wrapping
it, and laying it in a tomb. Also the women beholding where it
had been placed.
All this was done, we English readers think BEFORE the
Sabbath, for it says it was YET drawing on, yet to come, future
tense, to our minds.
BUT FROM THE GREEK.....WELL HOLD ON TO YOUR HATS.....GET
READY FOR A SHOCK WAVE TO HIT YOU.
The word "drew on" in Greek is NOT in the FUTURE tense at
all (and the Greek does use future tenses in the NT) but it is in
the IMPERFECT tense. Yes, mark it well.....it is in the
IMPERFECT tense.
What does that mean you may ask? What does the imperfect
tense mean in the NT Greek language? Luke's readers of Greek
would have understood exactly what he was saying, but the Greek
scholars of the KJV were so brain washed by their accepted
Easter tradition they refused to translate the Greek imperfect
tense in this verse, and put it in English as a FUTURE
tense.....but the Greek IMPERFECT is NOT FUTURE tense at all!
From the book ESSENTIALS OF NT GREEK by Ray Summers, lesson
13, page 55, we read:
"The imperfect tense indicates CONTINUOUS action in PAST
time. Contrast 'I am loosing' (present) with 'I was loosing'
(imperfect) and the significance is clear......Always
it represents CONTINUOUS ACTION IN PAST TIME......"
Mr. Summers goes on to show there are two types of
imperfect, one would be like a broken line of repeat, as - - - -
- - and the other as continued, as _______
Repeating a question from time to time in the PAST would be
the - - - - - imperfect.
Something like the Sabbath coming in the PAST (already from
the past having begun) and continuing, would be __________
imperfect.
So, what really did Luke write? He tells you about Joseph
coming to Pilate and begging the body of Jesus. He tells you
about all that was then done, and placing the body in the tomb,
the women beholding the place. He tells you they needed to do all
this for the preparation of the Sabbath, but then he tells you
the Sabbath HAD ALREADY COME, THAT IT WAS ALREADY THERE FROM THE
PAST AND WAS CONTINUING.
Correctly translating the last phrase of Luke 23:54 from the
Greek, reads like this, putting it in our English: "And Sabbath
(the word "the" is not in the Greek) HAD COME AND WAS
CONTINUING."
I did not come in the middle of the night and change the
Greek tense in this verse. It has always been there from the day
Luke wrote it - the "imperfect" tense, not the "present" and not
the "future" tense, but the IMPERFECT!
This whole world has been deceived not only about the LENGTH
of time Jesus was in the tomb (The Roman Catholic church
deceiving the world by its Easter adoption, and the whole world
has been deceived as to the time of Jesus' placement in the tomb
and hence to the time He was resurrected).
This all fits exactly with what Matthew and Mark wrote. They
BOTH said that Joseph came to Pilate to request the body of
Jesus......get ready for it, most have read right over these
verses......at EVEN or EVENING! Look it up, do not just take my
word for it, see it in your own Bible friends. Matthew 27:57 and
Mark 15:42.
I have proved in a separate in-depth study, the NT NEVER,
not once, uses the word "even" (evening) to be BEFORE 6 p.m.
(unless of course sunset comes before 6 p.m.) Most of the time
in the NT it means SUN-SET!
At the time of the Passover (spring of the year) when Jesus
was crucified, sunset was about 6 p.m.
Joseph did not even come to Pilate to request the body of
Christ UNTIL EVEN - SUNSET!
Jesus was placed in the tomb sometime AFTER sunset, sometime
AFTER the Sabbath HAD COME AND WAS CONTINUING!
Hence what all this means is that Christ was RESURRECTED not
on the Sabbath, but AFTER the Sabbath had ended! It was a FIRST
DAY OF THE WEEK resurrection, or what we call Saturday evening.
It was just AFTER sunset, just AFTER the Sabbath that the
first fruits of the spring harvest was cut, the WAVE SHEAF, and
presented to the Lord the next morning in the Temple (proven from
Jewish history of the time). Paul was inspired to say Jesus was
the FIRST of the firstfruits (1 Cor.15). Type and Anti-type.
The wave sheaf represented Christ. It was cut after the Sabbath,
and so Jesus was raised to life as the first of the firstfruits
AFTER the Sabbath, not on the Sabbath as most of us (in the
Sabbath keeping Churches of God) have thought.
If you have not had my study paper on "How the NT uses the
word 'evening' " then request it, I can send it via e-mail. It is
important to what I have explained above.
May you be willing to love the truth and to grow in grace
and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus.
