Jesus and the Apostles staked the validity of the gospel
upon the message of the end-times of their 1st century
audience's generation: "Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom." (Matt. 16:27-28) "All these things shall come upon THIS GENERATION....Behold, YOUR house is left unto you desolate." (Matt. 23:36,38) "Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place." (Matt. 24:34-35) In answer to the chief priests accusation "this man (Jesus) said, 'I am able to destroy the temple of God and to rebuild it in three days." Jesus replied: "hereafter, YOU (1st century priests He was addressing) shall see the Son sitting at the right hand of Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven." (Matt. 26:64) "When you see these things taking place, you know that the kingdom of God is near." (Luke 21:31) "The time is fulfilled; and the kingdom of God is at hand..." (Mark 1:15) "every soul, which shall not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people. yea, and all the prophets...have likewise foretold of these days." (Acts 3:23-24) "but when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his son." (Gal. 4:4) "The end of all things is at hand....for the time is come that judgment must begin at the household of God." (I Peter 4:7,17). "Set your hope fully upon the grace that is coming to you at the revelation of Jesus (the) Christ." (I Peter 1:13, II Peter 3:10-14) "Who (Christ) verily was fore ordained before the foundaiton of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you." (I Peter 1:20) "Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand. Behold, the judge standeth before the door" (James 5:8,9) "The mystery of iniquity is already at work." (II Thes. 2:7, I Thes. 1:9-10, 5:1-4). "Knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake from sleep; for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed." (Rom. 13:11-12) "The God of pease shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly" (Rom. 16:20) "The appointed time has grown very short... The form of this world is passing away." (I Cor. 7:29,31). These things "were written down for our instruction, upon whom the end of the ages has come." (I Cor. 10:11) "In these last days he has spoken to us by a Son..." (Heb. 1:2) "What is becoming obsolete and growing old [the old covenant] is ready to vanish away" (Heb. 8:13) "Now even the FIRST covenant had regulations of divine worship and the EARTHLY SANCTUARY. The Holy Spirit signifying this, that the way into the holy place has not yet been disclosed while the outer tabernacle IS STILL STANDING, which is a symbol for the PRESENT time... until the time of reformation." (Heb. 9:1,8-10) "But now once in the end of the world (age - NASV -at the consumation of the ages) hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself." (Heb. 9:26) "not neglecting to meet together....and all the more as you see the Day drawing near." (Heb. 10:25) "For yet a little while, and the coming one shall come and shall not delay." (Heb. 10:37 and 12:18-29) "It IS THE LAST TIME: and as you have heard that antichrist shall come, even now there are many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time." (I John 2:18) "The revelation of Jesus Christ to show what must shortly take place...the time is near." (Rev. 1:1-3, 22:6,7,10,12,20) "He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come Lord Jesus." (Rev. 22:20. After these scriptures and is their any doubt in your mind that they all shared an IMMINENT vision of the end? Were they right and Jesus did return and bring about the end as they all expected? Did all of Jesus' words come true that all these things happened before that generation passed away and while some standing there still lived or not? "Hope deferred maketh the heart sick, but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life. Whosoever despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded." (Prov. 13:12-13)
