To a Candle, tall and white,
And a world, once grim and dark,
Like a lion, poised to leap,
Like the sun, he shares a fate
And the rule of Christ on earth

Comes a wonder (from above):
A flame, like a guiding Light,
When the Saxon learns to love.
Sunk in clouds of sullen fear,
Rejoices to see the spark
in his eyes, so bright and clear!
Or a sweetly-singing dove
Who watches (while others sleep)

Like a morning mist, dissolves;

Arrives, like a blessed birth --
When the Saxon learns to love,
