From ethnic Germans in Ukraine, to Crimean Tatars, to Poles, Balts, Koreans, Chechens, and now Ukrainian children, Moscow has repeatedly used forced population transfers<\/strong> to erase identity, break resistance, and permanently alter who belongs to the land.<\/p>\n

This is not simply repression. It is demographic engineering<\/strong> \u2014 the deliberate manipulation of the human ecosystem of entire regions.<\/p>\n

And it is happening again.<\/p>\n

II. Ethnic Germans Were Native to Ukraine \u2014 Not Foreigners<\/h2>\n

Contrary to widespread misconception, ethnic Germans were not wartime invaders in Ukraine. They were indigenous settlers<\/strong> whose presence predated modern Russia itself.<\/p>\n

Ukrainian historians now confirm that German communities existed on Ukrainian lands as early as the 10th century<\/strong>, during the era of Kyivan Rus and the Galician-Volhynian Kingdom. But the largest wave of German settlement occurred in the 18th century<\/strong>, when Germans fleeing war and religious persecution in Central Europe accepted invitations from the Russian Empire to colonize and develop southern Ukraine.<\/p>\n

These Germans built entire towns, farms, and industrial centers. By the early 20th century, Ukraine contained fully German districts<\/strong>, including:<\/p>\n

\u2022 German-majority districts in Volhynia
\u2022 German cities in Odesa Oblast
\u2022 German colonies in Zaporizhzhia
\u2022 German settlements in Kherson<\/p>\n

These were not minorities sprinkled among others. They were self-contained, multi-generational communities<\/strong>, with their own churches, schools, and economies.<\/p>\n

Pre-war Ukraine contained approximately 1.8 million ethnic Germans<\/strong>, according to historical census data, USSR official deportations etc.<\/p>\n

A visual representation of this reality is preserved in the 1910 census maps showing extensive German-speaking regions across southern and eastern Ukraine.<\/p>\n

III. How Moscow Criminalized an Entire People<\/h2>\n

The destruction of these communities did not begin with Hitler. It began earlier.<\/p>\n

During the 1930s, German engineers and farmers \u2014 many of whom had helped industrialize Ukraine \u2014 were increasingly accused of being \u201cforeign spies\u201d and \u201ckulaks.\u201d The narrative of suspicion was already being built.<\/p>\n

When Nazi Germany invaded the USSR in 1941, the Soviet regime used the war as pretext to enact something far broader: collective punishment<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

All ethnic Germans \u2014 regardless of personal beliefs, loyalty, or history \u2014 were declared Nazi collaborators<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Ukrainian historians now confirm that in 1941:<\/p>\n

\u2022 Entire German towns were emptied
\u2022 Families were deported to forced labor camps
\u2022 Men, women, and children were sent eastward under guard<\/p>\n

This was not justice. It was ethnic punishment<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Even after Stalin\u2019s death, the repression continued.<\/p>\n

A special Soviet decree forbade ethnic Germans from returning to their homes until 1974<\/strong> \u2014 nearly 30 years after the war had ended.<\/p>\n

The land was taken. The churches abandoned. The cemeteries left to decay.<\/p>\n

Ukraine lost one of its most productive, stable, and deeply rooted populations \u2014 not through war, but through administrative erasure<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

IV. The Kremlin Is Doing It Again \u2014 But Worse<\/h2>\n

What happened to the Germans is now happening to Ukrainians \u2014 particularly to their children.<\/p>\n

According to Ukrainian historian Vladyslav Havrylov, modern Russian deportation policy is more advanced and more dangerous than its Soviet predecessor.<\/p>\n

During 2022 and 2023, Russian authorities deported Ukrainian children to:<\/p>\n

\u2022 Rostov Oblast
\u2022 Voronezh Oblast
\u2022 Belgorod Oblast
\u2022 Belarus<\/p>\n

There, they were placed into \u201ctemporary accommodation centers,\u201d which were in fact pre-planned indoctrination hubs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Once inside Russia, deportation is only the first stage.<\/p>\n

The next stage is reprogramming<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Children are placed into:<\/p>\n

\u2022 Russian state education systems
\u2022 Russian nationalist curricula
\u2022 Paramilitary youth organizations such as:
\u2013 Yunarmiya
\u2013 Movement of the First
\u2013 Orly Rossii<\/p>\n

These are not cultural clubs. They are militarization pipelines<\/strong> designed to convert kidnapped children into future soldiers for the Russian state.<\/p>\n

As Havrylov explains, this is no longer merely deportation \u2014 it is biological and psychological capture<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

V. How Many Children Have Been Taken?<\/h2>\n

The official Ukrainian government registry (Children of War) confirms:<\/p>\n

\u2022 19,546 Ukrainian children have been identified as deported
\u2022 Only 1,605 have been returned<\/p>\n

These are only the documented cases.<\/p>\n

Occupied cities like Mariupol are now being filled with migrants from Dagestan, Tuva, Buryatia, and Mordovia \u2014 people who have no historical roots to the land and no loyalty to its future.<\/p>\n

This is the same strategy used in Kaliningrad (former East Prussia), where a 100% German population was erased and replaced after 1945.<\/p>\n

The result was not integration \u2014 it was cultural sterilization<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

VII. The Forgotten German Question<\/h2>\n

Pre-war East Prussia (now Kaliningrad) had nearly three million Germans<\/strong>. It was not legally annexed until after Germany\u2019s defeat. It was emptied under the same \u201cdenazification\u201d banner used against Germans in Ukraine.<\/p>\n

Russia now claims it is \u201cdenazifying\u201d Ukraine.<\/p>\n

But history reveals what that word really means in Moscow\u2019s vocabulary:<\/p>\n

Germans were called Nazis.
Ukrainians are called Nazis.
Baltic peoples were called fascists.
Chechens were called extremists.<\/p>\n

The label changes. The machinery does not.<\/p>\n

IX. A Different Future Is Possible<\/h2>\n

Ukraine will soon receive hundreds of billions in Western reconstruction funding<\/strong> under US-backed security guarantees.<\/p>\n

This creates a historic opportunity.<\/p>\n

Instead of repeating Soviet-style demographic erasure, Ukraine could:<\/p>\n

\u2022 Restore property rights to displaced families
\u2022 Rebuild destroyed towns as multi-ethnic zones<\/strong>
\u2022 Invite German-Ukrainian descendants to return
\u2022 Offer land grants to young families
\u2022 Create protected cultural districts<\/p>\n

This is not removal. It is restoration<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Entire regions of southern and eastern Ukraine have been bombed into emptiness. They are depopulated. No one is being displaced \u2014 there is nothing left to displace.<\/p>\n
