{"id":10292,"date":"2021-12-06T21:01:06","date_gmt":"2021-12-06T21:01:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/watchmannews.kinsta.cloud\/?p=10292"},"modified":"2022-04-19T05:59:24","modified_gmt":"2022-04-19T05:59:24","slug":"judahs-sceptre-and-josephs-birthright-pt21","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/watchman.news\/nl\/2021\/12\/judahs-sceptre-and-josephs-birthright-pt21\/","title":{"rendered":"JUDAH&#8217;S SCEPTRE AND JOSEPH&#8217;S BIRTHRIGHT pt21"},"content":{"rendered":"<pre>JUDAH'S SCEPTRE AND JOSEPH'S BIRTHRIGHT #21\r\n\r\nby Allen (published in 1917)\r\nTHE OTHER OVERTURNS\r\n\r\n\r\n     In connection with the prophecies concerning the removal of\r\nthe crown of David from the head of Zedekiah to the head of a\r\nprime who belonged to the hitherto non-ruling branch of the royal\r\nfamily of Israel's race, the Lord said, \"I will overturn,\r\noverturn, overturn it; and it shall be no more (moved or\r\noverturned) until he comes whose right it is; and I will give it\r\nto him.\" These words teach that, after the removal of David's\r\ncrown from the head of the then ruling prince, there were to be\r\nthree overturns - no more, no less and that after the third\r\noverturn the crown must rest, or stay in the place where it is\r\nleft by the third overturn, until that person comes to whom it\r\nbelongs by right. Then at least one more overturn will be\r\nnecessary, for that seat of power must yet go back to the city of\r\nDavid.\r\n\r\n     The first of these overturns we have already traced from\r\nPalestine to the islands of the north-west, which are in the\r\n\"great waters.\" We now propose to show that the other two of\r\nthese predicted overturns took place in those self-same islands,\r\nor, in other words, that these three overturns landed the sceptre\r\nand throne alternately in Ireland, Scotland and England; and\r\nthat, even after the third overturn, the kingdom is still, as the\r\nword of God declares, \"in the isles afar off,\" and \"in the sea.\"\r\n\r\n     It will be impossible to follow the history of the overturns\r\nof this kingdom, unless we again take up the thread of history as\r\nit concerns the pillar stone, upon which the kings of Israel were\r\ncrowned; for, strange as it may seem to some people, both ancient\r\nand modern history come honestly to the rescue of prophecy, and\r\nfollow that stone through each of these overturns.\r\n     We have already seen, according to Josephus, that, prior to\r\nthe return of the Jews from Babylon, Ezra (Esdras) received a\r\nletter from Xerxes, which was so full of offered favors, love,\r\nand fraternal greetings, that he sent a copy of it to the ten\r\ntribes in Media-Persia, and asked them to return with the Jews to\r\nJerusalem. But the ten tribes refused this offer, and Josephus\r\ntells us that the entire body of Israel remained in that country.\r\nOn the other hand, Ezra (Esdras), who was in a position to know\r\nmore about them, says that they decided not to return, and also\r\nthat they took counsel among themselves, and resolved that they\r\nwould go further away into an unknown country. In accomplishing\r\nthis. Esdras says, \"They entered into Euphrates by the narrow\r\npassages of the river. For the Most High then shewed signs for\r\nthem, and held still the waters till they were passed over. For\r\nthrough that country there was a great way to go, namely, of a\r\nyear and a half.\" This is in harmony with the following: \"The\r\nbreaker is come up before them; they have broken up, and have\r\npassed through the gate and are gone out of it, and their king\r\nshall pass before them; and the Lord on the head of them.\" (Micah\r\n2:13.)\r\n\r\n     The clause, \"They have passed through the gate,\" and the one\r\nby Ezra, \"They have entered into the narrow passages,\" are\r\nparallel, and refer to the same circumstance and place. This\r\ngate, or narrow passage, which is up among the headwaters of the\r\nEuphrates, is now called the Caucasian Pass, or the Pass of\r\nDariel. As Israel goes out through this pass, Micah says that the\r\nLord is on the head of them, but it is left for Ezra to say that\r\nthe Lord gave Israel evidence of his presence, because he gave\r\nthem signs and held still the floods, as he did at Jordan, until\r\nthey passed over.\r\n     But while the Lord is with Israel, it is said of their king\r\nthat he shall pass before, or precede them to that unknown\r\ncountry to which they are going. It is for this reason that Hosea\r\nsays, \"The children of Israel shall abide many days without a\r\nking, and without a sacrifice, and without an image,\" or, as the\r\nmarginal reading gives it, \"without a sanding pillar.\" Young, in\r\nhis Exhaustive Concordance, gives among other definitions of the\r\noriginal Hebrew word, both that of memorial stone and pillar.\r\nOther scholarly men who have investigated this text, in\r\nconnection with its context, even give us pillar-rock and\r\npillar-stone as the correct rendering.\r\n     All this, supplemented by the fact that the word of God\r\nassociates the absent king with the absent pillarstone, justifies\r\nour conclusion, that the pillar in question is the Bethel pillar\r\nstone which was used as a coronation stone, consequently it was\r\nleft with the royal family which ruled over the Jews until the\r\noverthrow of Zedekiah.\r\n\r\n     We must also remember that Jeremiah and his little remnant\r\nwere taken, against their will, and against the direct command of\r\nGod, to Egypt, and that while there they dwelt in Taphanhes.\r\nMorton W. Spencer says, \"It is an undeniable historical fact that\r\nabout 580 B.C. (i. e., the very time of the captivity of the Jews\r\nin Babylon), that a princess from the East did arrive in the\r\nnorth of Ireland. Her name was Tephi, a pet name like \"Violet,\"\r\ndenoting beauty, fragrance. Tea Tephi was her full name, found in\r\nHebrew. The Tea, a little one, and Tephi answering to a surname.\r\nTaph, the root word, is used in many scriptures (Gen.34:29, and\r\nDeut.1:39) (Vide Concordance). Her names were interchangeably\r\nused as Tea, Taffe, Taffes, Tephi, the Eastern Princess, the\r\nDaughter of Pharaoh, and Tea Tephi; either of these serve to\r\nidentify her as \"The King's Daughter.\" In Egypt she was offered\r\nprotection, and from her the city of Taphanhes or Dahpnae was\r\nnamed, doubtless, and to this day we are shown the site of \"The\r\nPalace of the Jew's Daughter,\" by the Arabs. The fact that she\r\nfled the country is still preserved in her name, Tarah, meaning\r\none banished or flight.\r\n     The name of Pharaoh is neither a given nor a surname, but it\r\nis the Egyptian name for king or monarch. The very fact that\r\nIrish historians called Tea Tephi \"The Daughter of Pharaoh\" is\r\nproof that they knew her as \"The King's Daughter.\" Also this\r\nname, \"The King's Daughter,\" is the only one used in the Bible\r\naccount of the first overturn to designate that daughter of\r\nZedekiah who succeeded him to the inheritance of David's throne,\r\nexcepting, of course, that metaphorical name, \"Tender twig,\" of\r\nEzekiel's riddle. Since the name Tea means \"little one,\" and\r\nsince a tender twig is also a little one, it certainly takes no\r\ngreat stretch of faith to believe that these two names belong to\r\none and the same person. Especially is this the case when we\r\nconsider that in the Tea Tephi of Irish history we have a king's\r\ndaughter, with a Hebrew name, who not only came from the East,\r\nbut also from Egypt, and who is the daughter of a Jew.\r\n     But there are still other facts connected with the arrival\r\nof this princess in Ireland, which, as we consider them, will\r\nstrengthen our faith more and more. Tea Tephi was accompanied by\r\nan aged guardian, who was called Ollam Folla, more Hebrew words\r\nwhich mean revealer, or prophet. The prophet was accompanied by a\r\nman who was his scribe, whom the chronicles of Ireland called\r\nBrug, or Bruch. Baruch was Jeremiah's scribe while they were in\r\nJudea; he went with the little remnant to Egypt, and escaped when\r\nthe rest did; for his life, like the lives of the rest of his\r\nparty, was to be preserved in all places whither he should go.\r\nThis little company disappeared from Egypt, but surely they\r\nreappeared in Ireland, for, marvel of marvels! they brought with\r\nthem a pillar-stone; which has ever since been used as the\r\ncoronation stone of the kingdom.\r\n     Later, Tea (sometimes spelled Teah) Tephi herself was\r\ncrowned upon this pillar-stone, and the name of Erin's capital\r\nwas changed from Cathair Crofin to Tara, which is also another\r\nHebrew word. But at this juncture history comes to our help, and\r\nwith unquestioned authority declares that, from that time until\r\nthe present, every king and queen who has reigned in Ireland,\r\nScotland or England has been crowned upon that self-same pillar\r\nor coronation stone. Queen Victoria herself was twice crowned\r\nupon that stone, the first time as Queen of England, and the\r\nsecond time as Empress of India.\r\n     On the occasion of Queen Victoria's coronation, June 28th,\r\n1837, an article appeared in the \"London Sun,\" which gives a\r\ndescription of the coronation chair and the coronation stone, as\r\nfollows: \"This chair, commonly called St. Edward's chair, is an\r\nancient seat of solid hardwood, with back and sides of the same,\r\nvariously painted, in which the kings of Scotland were in former\r\nperiods constantly crowned, but, having been brought out of the\r\nkingdom by Edward I, in the year 1296, after he had totally\r\novercome John Baliol, king of Scots, it has ever since remained\r\nin the Abbey of Westminster, and has been the chair in which the\r\nsucceeding kings and queens of this realm have been inaugurated.\r\nIt is in height six feet and seven inches, in breadth at the\r\nbottom thirty-eight inches, and in depth twenty-four inches; from\r\nthe seat to the bottom is twenty-five inches; the breadth of the\r\nseat within the sides is twenty-eight inches, and the depth\r\neighteen inches. At nine inches from the ground is a board,\r\nsupported at the four corners by as many lions. Between the seat\r\nand this board is enclosed a stone, commonly called Jacob's, or\r\nthe fatal Marble, Stone, which is an oblong of about twenty-two\r\ninches in length, thirteen inches broad and eleven inches deep;\r\nof a steel color, mixed with some veins of red. History relates\r\nthat it is the stone whereon the patriarch Jacob laid his head in\r\nthe plains of Luz.\" This, as you see, was published more than\r\nsixty years ago, before it was thought possible that the\r\nAnglo-Saxons were the descendants of Joseph, the inheritor of the\r\nbirthright blessing which God gave to his fathers, Abraham, Isaac\r\nand Jacob.\r\n     This article further says that \"this stone was conveyed into\r\nIreland by way of Spain about 700 years before Christ. From there\r\nit was taken into Scotland by King Fergus, about 370 years later;\r\nand in the year 350 B.C., it was placed in the abbey of Scone, by\r\nKing Kenneth, who caused a prophetical verse to be engraved upon\r\nit, of which the following is a translation 'Should fate not\r\nfail, where'er this stone is found, The Scots shall monarch of\r\nthat realm be crowned.' This antique regal chair, having\r\n(together with the golden sceptre and crown of Scotland) been\r\nsolemnly offered by King Edward I. to St. Edward the Confessor,\r\nin the year 1297 (from whence it derives the appellation of St.\r\nEdward's chair), has ever since been kept in the chapel called by\r\nhis name; with a tablet affixed to it, whereon several Latin\r\nverses are written, in old English characters. * * * The stone\r\nmaintains its usual place under the seat of the chair.\"\r\n\r\n     Prior to the time that King Kenneth had his verse engraved\r\non that Coronation Stone, there was a prophetic verse which had\r\nattached itself to it, which Sir Walter Scott has rendered, one\r\nword excepted, as follows: \"Unless the fates are faithless grown,\r\nAnd prophet's voice be vain, Where'er is found this sacred stone\r\nThe Wanderers' Race shall reign.\"\r\n\r\n     Think of it! For more than seven hundred years this stone\r\nhas been in Westminster Abbey. Dean Stanley, in his \"Memorials of\r\nWestminster Abbey,\" says: \"The chief object of attraction, to\r\nthis day, to the innumerable visitors to the Abbey, is probably\r\nthat ancient Irish monument of the empire known as the Coronation\r\nStone.\" He calls it a \"Precious Relic,\" and says that King Edward\r\nI. said that \"It is the one primeval monument which binds\r\ntogether the whole empire.\" The Dean further adds: \"The iron\r\nrings, the battered surface, the crack, which has all but rent\r\nits solid mass asunder, bear witness to its long migrations. It\r\nis thus embedded in the heart of the English monarchy, an element\r\nof poetic, patriarchal, heathen times, which like Araunah's\r\nthreshing floor in the midst of the temple of Solomon carries\r\nback our thoughts to races and customs now almost extinct, a link\r\nwhich unites the throne of England with the traditions of Tara\r\nand Iona, and connects the charm of our complex civilization with\r\nthe favors of Mother Earth, the stocks and stones of savage\r\nnature. Faithful or foolish, the sentiment of the nation has,\r\nthrough three hundred generations of living men, made it felt\r\nthat Jacob's Pillar Stone was a thing worth dying for in battle.\r\nBy the treaty of Northampton in 1328, the emeralds, pearls, and\r\nrubies were carried off without a murmur. But the Ragged Old\r\nStone - Oh no!---the Londoners would have died for that! The\r\nstone of Scone, on which it was the custom for the kings of\r\nScotland to be set at their coronation, the Londoners would on no\r\naccount suffer to be sent away.\"\r\n     Dr. Poole says: \"This stone is a dull, reddish or purplish\r\nsandstone, with a few small embedded pebbles; one of these is\r\nquartz and two others of a dark material. The rock is calcareous\r\nand is of that kind which masons call freestone. Chisel marks are\r\nvisible on one or more of its sides.\" There is no rock of this\r\nkind in England, Ireland or Scotland. But the Rev. Canon Tristram\r\nsays that there is a stratum of sandstone near the Dead Sea just\r\nlike this stone, which by the English people is called Jacob's\r\nPillow Stone. This stone is called by the Irish and by the Scotch\r\n'Lia Fail' and 'The Stone of Destiny.' In Irish Lia is stone and\r\nFail is fate, hence, the stone of fate, or the stone of destiny.\r\nBut it is that only because it is Jacob's Pillow-Pillar Stone.\r\nThis is the reason that Tea Tephi was called \"The Daughter of\r\nGod's House.\" (Log, or Lug, Celtic for God, and Aidh, a house;\r\nhence the word Lughaidh.) \r\n     Amergin, chief bard to King Dermod, monarch of Ireland in\r\nthe sixth century, in the \"Notes of the Annals of the Four\r\nMasters,\" refers to Tea Tephi as follows:\r\n\r\n\"A rampart was raised around her house, For Teah, the daughter of\r\nLughaidh, She was buried outside in her mound, And from her it\r\nwas named Tea-mur.\"\r\n\r\n     The parentage here assigned to Tea Tephi could have been for\r\nno other reason than that she was the daughter of \"God's house,\"\r\nto the people to whom she brought \"God's house,\" the Stone, which\r\nwas their Shepherd-stone, i. e., Bethel. Morton W. Spencer says\r\nthat Lia (sometimes spelled Leag) is an Irish word and means \"a\r\nstone,\" but that Phail is Hebrew, and is itself a Scripture word,\r\nand is of the deepest import, for it means wonderful, and is so\r\ntranslated in Isa.9:6. \r\n     This we have verified, and it clinches our thought that the\r\nBethel stone, or Lia Fail, the Stone Wonderful, is indeed a\r\nsymbol of that Divine Rock, that Wonderful One, THE ROCK OF OUR\r\nSALVATION.\r\n     The fact that there are iron rings in the stone which is in\r\nthe Coronation Chair, and that they are worn, is remarkable. The\r\nquestion arises, How and when were they worn? It could not have\r\nbeen in the royal halls of Tara, nor in the abbey of Scone, nor\r\nsince it came to Westminster, nor in the temple of Jerusalem; but\r\nsurely it could have been when, for forty years, Israel journeyed\r\nthrough the wilderness, and had both literal and spiritual drink\r\nfrom their Shepherd rocks that followed them.\r\n     The modern classic Hebrew uses little dots like periods to\r\nrepresent the vowel sounds. These dots are placed in various\r\npositions about the alphabetical characters which represent the\r\nconsonant sounds. But it is a well known fact that in ancient\r\nHebrew writings, both secular and sacred, there are no\r\ncharacters, not even the little dots, to represent the vowel\r\nsounds. Hence, the vowels are absolutely unwritten, and the\r\nconsonants of a word are so arranged that the speaker is\r\ncompelled to give the vowel sound while pronouncing the\r\nconsonants. Take, for instance, the word Bethel. There, in the\r\noriginal, we have only that which is equivalent to the English\r\nB-th-l. At Bethel, as we have already shown, when Jacob set up\r\nthe Bethel stone, he used it for an altar, at which he\r\nworshipped, and upon which he made his vow. Prof. Totten, of New\r\nHaven, says: \"The altars of ancient Ireland were called Botal or\r\nBothal, meaning the house of God.\" That is, it is the Hebrew word\r\nB-th-l, and has the same meaning.\r\n     Thus the Bethel stone again proves itself to be a perfect\r\ntype of Christ, for although Christ is many other things, he is\r\nalso the Christian's altar. Proof: Jesus said to the Pharisees:\r\n\"Whether is greater, the gift or the altar that sanctifieth the\r\ngift?\" In this we see that the altar is that which sanctifies.\r\nElsewhere we are told that \"Jesus Christ, of God, is made unto us\r\nsanctification.\" Since it is the altar which does the\r\nsanctifying, then he who sanctifies is the altar. Thus, it is\r\nwritten, \"We have an altar, whereof they have no right to eat\r\nwhich serve the tabernacle. * * * Wherefore Jesus also, that he\r\nmight sanctify the people (i.e., do that which the altar does)\r\nwith his own blood, suffered without the gate.\"\r\n     Yes, the Altar-Shepherd was smitten, and concerning that\r\nother rock, Dean Stanley speaks of the crack, which, he says,\r\n\"has all but rent its solid mass asunder.\" Could it be possible\r\nthat rent was made when and because Moses smote the rock when he\r\nwas told to speak to it? But, be this as it may, history has made\r\nit impossible to escape the fact that, like a true Shepherd,\r\nthis stone has followed the fortunes and misfortunes of its\r\npeople for two thousand five hundred years. Joshua, at one time,\r\ntook a stone, set it up, and said unto all Israel. \"Behold, this\r\nstone shall be a witness unto us; for it hath heard all the words\r\nof the Lord which he spake unto us: it shall be therefore a\r\nwitness unto you lest ye deny your God.\" Thus we see that a stone\r\nmay be a witness; and the historians of Great Britain, either\r\nwittingly or unwittingly, have made Lia Fail (sometimes spelled\r\nLeag Phail) a witness to an unbroken line of sovereigns, for it\r\nhas been the throne upon which their rulers have been\r\nconsecutively crowned, ever since it was landed in Ireland.\r\n     Further, there have been just three overturns of this\r\nkingdom. The first, as we have shown, was from Palestine to Tara,\r\nin the plantation of Ulster, through Tea Tephi, Jeremiah's ward,\r\nthe \"King's Daughter.\" The second overturn was from Ireland to\r\nScotland, through Fergus, who sent for Lia Fail, the Stone of\r\nDestiny, and had it brought from Tara to Iona, where he was\r\ncrowned. The third OVERTURN was from Scotland to England. At this\r\ntime the throne was brought from Scotland and placed in\r\nWestminster Abbey, where it rests under the protection of the\r\ngreatest monarchy on earth.\r\n     Hence, if this Coronation Stone which is in Westminster,\r\nwhich the English call Jacob's Pillow, and which their Scotch and\r\nIrish ancestors called \"God's house,\" \"B-th-l,\" \"The Stone of\r\nDestiny,\" and \"Leag Phail,\" \"The Stone Wonderful,\" - we say, if\r\nthis stone is indeed what these names and what its history\r\ndeclare it to be, then it is indeed the veritable throne of\r\nIsrael, upon which the sons of David were formally crowned in the\r\nTemple of God at Jerusalem. Consequently, in this also, God has\r\nkept faith with David, and preserved his throne through all\r\ngenerations that are past.\r\n\r\n     This makes us feel like singing the Doxology, because it is\r\njust as it should be. When the Bethel stone was in Bethel place,\r\nit was \"God's house,\" in God's house; when it was in the Temple,\r\nit was still God's house, in God's house; when, as one of the\r\njewels of empire, it was taken by Teah, the \"tender twig,\" and\r\nplaced in the heights of Israel in the islands of the sea, it was\r\nstill God's house, in God's house. The descendants of Teah and\r\nHerremon are the custodians of that rock today, and their\r\nsubjects possess all the distinguishing marks whereby prophecy\r\ndeclares the lost house o f God shall finally be recognized and\r\nfound.
