Yet throughout Scripture, the people of God repeatedly worship in covenant continuity with those who came before them.<\/p>\n<p>Biblical prayer is not isolated, detached, or ahistorical. The saints of Scripture continually invoke:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the God of their fathers,<\/li>\n<li>the covenant people of previous generations,<\/li>\n<li>the mighty acts of God in history,<\/li>\n<li>the heavenly host,<\/li>\n<li>the worshipping assembly,<\/li>\n<li>and the kingdom of God stretching across heaven and earth.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The communion of saints therefore did not suddenly appear in medieval Christianity. Its roots are woven deeply throughout the biblical worldview itself.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>The God of Our Fathers<\/h2>\n<p>Throughout Scripture, the people of God pray in remembrance of what God has already done among His covenant people.<\/p>\n<p>One of the clearest examples appears in the prayer of King Jehoshaphat when Israel faced overwhelming destruction:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cO LORD God of our fathers\u2026 art not thou God in heaven?&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>\u2026Didst not thou, our God, drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u2026we have no might against this great company\u2026 neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee.\u201d<br \/>\n\u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bibleserver.com\/KJV\/2%20Chronicles20%3A6-12\" class=\"bibleserver extern\" target=\"_blank\">2 Chronicles 20:6\u201312<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The prayer invokes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the God of their fathers,<\/li>\n<li>the covenant history of Israel,<\/li>\n<li>the works God performed in previous generations,<\/li>\n<li>and the continuing relationship between God and His people.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Afterward, the people worshipped together singing:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cFor his mercy endureth for ever.\u201d<br \/>\n\u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bibleserver.com\/KJV\/2%20Chronicles20%3A21\" class=\"bibleserver extern\" target=\"_blank\">2 Chronicles 20:21<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And God delivered them.<\/p>\n<p>This pattern appears repeatedly throughout biblical prayer. The people of God worship by remembering:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the fathers,<\/li>\n<li>the covenant,<\/li>\n<li>the righteous,<\/li>\n<li>the saints,<\/li>\n<li>and the mighty acts of God in previous generations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Mount Zion and the Heavenly Assembly<\/h2>\n<p>The New Testament expands this covenantal vision even further.<\/p>\n<p>The Book of Hebrews describes Christian worship not merely as an earthly gathering, but as participation in a heavenly assembly:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cBut ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,<\/p>\n<p>To the general assembly and church of the firstborn\u2026<\/p>\n<p>And to the spirits of just men made perfect.\u201d<br \/>\n\u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bibleserver.com\/KJV\/Hebrews12%3A22-23\" class=\"bibleserver extern\" target=\"_blank\">Hebrews 12:22\u201323<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Notice carefully: the passage says \u201cye are come.\u201d The language is present tense.<\/p>\n<p>Christian worship is described as participation in:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mount Zion,<\/li>\n<li>the heavenly Jerusalem,<\/li>\n<li>the angelic host,<\/li>\n<li>the general assembly of the Church,<\/li>\n<li>and the spirits of just men made perfect.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This is one of the clearest biblical foundations for understanding the communion of saints within the worshipping life of the Church.<\/p>\n<p>The Church does not worship alone or in isolation. Scripture presents worship as participation in the heavenly kingdom of God.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>The Psalms and Heavenly Worship<\/h2>\n<p>The Psalms repeatedly present worship as something shared between:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>heaven and earth,<\/li>\n<li>angels and mankind,<\/li>\n<li>the congregation below and the heavenly host above.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cBless the LORD, ye his angels, that excel in strength\u2026\u201d<br \/>\n\u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bibleserver.com\/KJV\/Psalm103%3A20\" class=\"bibleserver extern\" target=\"_blank\">Psalm 103:20<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cPraise ye him, all his angels: praise ye him, all his hosts.\u201d<br \/>\n\u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bibleserver.com\/KJV\/Psalm148%3A2\" class=\"bibleserver extern\" target=\"_blank\">Psalm 148:2<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cLet the saints be joyful in glory.\u201d<br \/>\n\u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bibleserver.com\/KJV\/Psalm149%3A5\" class=\"bibleserver extern\" target=\"_blank\">Psalm 149:5<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Again and again, biblical worship invokes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the congregation,<\/li>\n<li>the righteous,<\/li>\n<li>the saints,<\/li>\n<li>the heavenly host,<\/li>\n<li>the generations before us,<\/li>\n<li>and all creation praising God together.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Psalms are therefore not merely private prayers. They are the prayer book of a worshipping covenant people joined together before God.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Kingdom Prayer and Covenant Identity<\/h2>\n<p>When Christ taught His disciples to pray, He instructed them to say:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThy kingdom come.\u201d<br \/>\n\u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bibleserver.com\/KJV\/Matthew6%3A10\" class=\"bibleserver extern\" target=\"_blank\">Matthew 6:10<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The kingdom of God in Scripture is never merely individualistic. today,<\/li>\n<li>and the heavenly assembly before God.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The communion of saints therefore arises naturally from the biblical picture of one covenant people across heaven and earth.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>The Book of Revelation and Heavenly Intercession<\/h2>\n<p>The Book of Revelation further expands this heavenly worship imagery.<\/p>\n<p>The heavenly elders fall before God
