Christian Coalition of Maine recently sent a registered letter to every school principal, superintendent, and school board member. It included a copy of an article by the Family Research Institute citing a study published in 1996 in the Journal of Psychology. The study demonstrates that homosexual teachers are 8 to 10 times more likely to sexually involve themselves with pupils than heterosexual teachers.

The letter advised the school leaders that "Knowingly employing homosexual teachers after receipt of this study places you in a precarious legal situation." It pointed out that districts and their administrators could face serious civil and/or criminal charges if a homosexual teacher molests a pupil.

FRI director Dr. Paul Cameron says we have to "get the word out that when a child is molested by a homosexual teacher who was hired under or because of gay rights, the parents would be able to apply tort law against the teacher, the school officials, the school district, and the school board."

Hopefully the publication of this study will encourage school administrators to think twice before allowing homosexuals into the classrooms.

History has proven over and over that when a society begins to tolerate sinful behavior, the next step is acceptance that then leads to imitation. Finally you get a government mandate to promote it.

Millions of parents are looking for alternatives in private schools and home schooling. But just bailing out of the government school systems is not enough. We must boldly declare God's condemnation of this sin. We must not be intimidated by their shouts of "bigot," "homophobe," and "hate-monger."

One way to inoculate a community against this sin is to salt it thoroughly with the truth. An excellent approach is the use of literature. Chick Publications has produced the tract Doom Town for this purpose. These pamphlets show clearly that allowing the sinful homosexual practices is not just innocent intercourse between consenting adults. It promotes violence, venereal disease, and creates sexual predators who prey on children as well as naive adults. They show why the average life span of the male homosexual before AIDS was less than 45 years. AIDS only reduced this to approximately 39 years.

A document published yesterday by the Irish Catholic Church has proposed that seven New Testament texts be dropped from church services as they give "an undesirably negative impression regarding women".

The texts would be better omitted from Catholic Church services, and where quoted, "in any context, they should be suitably commented on in the light of contemporary church teaching", according to the document.

It also suggested that "the language of the Scriptures needs to be explained so that it is not implemented as being anti-woman".

The Domestic Violence document was prepared by the Irish Bishops' Commission for Justice and Peace and their Pastoral Commission. Dr Laurence Ryan, Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin, is president of the former commission, while Dr William Walsh, Bishop of Killaloe, is president of the latter.

In a joint foreword to the document both bishops said that on the issue of domestic violence "the church, like other sectors, has had its learning curve, and there is still a long way to go". It had also "not been without its share of responsibility [for such violence] in the past and we acknowledge this".

As an example they point out that "within marriage the mutual [their emphasis] submission of spouses was often overlooked, or equated with unilateral dominance". However, there was no ground in the teaching of the church today to justify domestic violence, they said.

In fact, a wife or husband had the right, and possibly the duty, not to stay in a seriously abusive relationship, they said.

The proposed àà la carte approach to the use of Scripture in church services would mean lines from St Paul, such as ". . . wives should submit to their husbands in everything" (Ephesians), would be out.

Also out would be his "I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not the one deceived and became a sinner. But women will be saved through childbearing." (I Timothy)

So, too, "women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says. If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church." (I Corinthians)

And it would also be goodbye to "A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man. For man did not come from woman, but woman from man." (I Corinthians)

The seven New Testament texts which the document suggests be dropped from future Catholic Church services are all found in the Acts of the Apostles. Six were written by St Paul and one by St Peter.

They are Colossians 3:18, Peter 3:1-6, Titus 2:4-5, Ephesians 5:22-24; 1 Corinthians 11:3-16, I Corinthians 14:33-35, Timothy 2:11-15.

Colossians 3:18 "Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord." By St Paul.

Peter 3:1-6 "Wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behaviour of their wives, when they see the purity and reverence of your lives. Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewellery and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight.

For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to make themselves beautiful. They were submissive to their own husbands, like Sarah, who obeyed Abraham and called him her master. You are her daughters if you do what is right and do not give way to fear." By St Peter.

Titus, 2:4-5 "Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God." Written to Titus by St Paul. (The "they" at the beginning of this excerpt refers to older women, whom Paul exhorts "to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good". Then it continues as above.)

Ephesians 5:22-24 "Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Saviour. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything." By St Paul.

1 Corinthians 11:3-16 "Now I want you to realise that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God. Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonours his head. And every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonours her head - it is just as though her head were shaved.

If a woman does not cover her head, she should have her hair cut off; and if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut or shaved off, she should cover her head. A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man. For man did not come from woman, but woman from man. For this reason, and because of the angels, the woman ought to have a sign of authority on her head.

"In the Lord, however, woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman. For as woman came from man, so also is man born of woman. But everything comes from God. "Judge for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered? Does not the very nature of things teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him, but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For long hair is given to her as a covering. If anyone wants to be contentious about this, we have no other practice - nor do the churches of God." By St Paul.

1 Corinthians 14:33-35 "As in all the congregations of the saints, women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says. ("Saints" is how he referred to fellow Christians).

Church drops texts seen as hostile to women

A joint document on domestic violence, published yesterday by two commissions of the Catholic Church in Ireland, has suggested that seven New Testament texts be dropped from future church services because of their comments about women.

And in a foreword to the document, Dr Laurence Ryan, Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin, and Dr William Walsh, Bishop of Killaloe, said: "A wife or husband has the right and possibly the duty not to stay in a seriously abusive relationship".

Six of the seven contentious texts referred to were written by St Paul, with one by St Peter. According to the Domestic Violence document they were "liable to give contemporary society an undesirably negative impression regarding women".

It suggested that these texts would be better omitted from the new Lectionary, currently in preparation.

"Four of the texts are in the Lectionary [the book containing a list of lessons or excerpts from Scripture to be used at church services] currently in use."

It continued: "If they are quoted, in any context, they should be suitably commented on in the light of contemporary church teaching . . ." It also proposed that "the language of Scripture needs to be explained so that it is not interpreted as being anti-woman".

In a foreword to the document, which was prepared by the Bishops' Commission for Justice and Peace and their Pastoral Commission, Bishop Ryan and Bishop Walsh, respective presidents of the commissions, said that in the past where the church was concerned "within marriage the mutual [their emphasis] submission of spouses was often overlooked, or equated with unilateral dominance".

For such reasons the church was not without its share of responsibility for the suffering "in silence and without redress" of those enduring "the wordless martyrdom of domestic violence".

However, "there is no ground in the teaching of the church today to justify domestic violence. Rape is rape whether within or outside the marriage relationship". The church, "like other sectors, has had its learning curve" on this issue, they said, "and there is still a long way to go".

They said that one of the healthy aspects of contemporary society was that "awareness of domestic violence, its scope and diversity, is now far more widespread".

But "it would be a mistake to presume that all domestic violence is perpetrated solely by one gender against another. Women, too, can be guilty of violence against men," they said.

However, "the underlying principle that violence from any quarter is wrong and sinful remains valid whatever the sex of the perpetrator," they said.

The document estimated that in Ireland only 20-30 per cent of women who experience such violence report it, while 34 per cent of those assaulted were pregnant at the time.

It said that, while not strictly within the category of domestic violence, "violence against prostitutes is very real and is wrong, independently of the moral judgment one makes of prostitution itself".

Trafficking in women also was an act of violence in itself and a serious breach of the most basic of human rights.

Within marriage many women still did not feel they had a choice around sexual behaviour, and it was only very recently that a woman would recognise and confront the reality that she might have been raped within marriage, it said.

But still there was "a cultural tolerance of abuse perpetrated by men against women, not only in the home but also in the wider community and workplace e.g. through sexual harassment". It praised the various women's organization to whose work since the 1970s the current improved situation was due.

Wellington (ENI). Ron O'Grady, a clergyman and leading crusader against child prostitution and child pornography, has claimed that the biggest occupational group of convicted child abusers in some Western countries are church workers, including clergy. O'Grady made these comments in an address to 2500 pastors and lay Christians at the World Convention of the Churches of Christ, in Brisbane, Australia, on 3 August, and repeated them in an interview with ENI on his return to his home in Aotearoa/New Zealand.

Although recent media reports, spearheaded by a story in the New York Times, have uncritically trumpeted as fact claims of homosexual activists that major corporations are withdrawing donations from the Boy Scouts of America, WorldNetDaily has found the claims to be largely untrue.

In fact, membership and funding for the Boy Scouts of America are now at record levels.

"All across the country, Scouting is prospering and growing," said Robert M. Gates, president of the National Eagle Scout Association in a recent letter to members. "Virtually every council has had healthy growth in both youth members and adult volunteers."

"Every council is enjoying improved financial support, to the extent that many are making capital improvements in their camps and council service centers for the first time in years. Many councils are now able to begin building endowments or add to existing ones that will enhance programs for years to come," explained Gates.

Enrollment in scouting is higher than at any time since the 1970s, according to BSA national spokesman Greg Shields. Over 47,000 boys earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 1999, a new record.

Many newspapers and television network news programs have repeated claims made in a New York Times article by reporter Kate Zernike that the BSA has suffered a significant financial loss -- but none of those news organizations verified the claims.

For the past three years, homosexual activists, represented by the Lambda Legal Defense Fund, have been locked in a battle with the Boy Scouts over their policy of not accepting homosexuals as adult leaders. That dispute was settled on June 28 when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the BSA is a private organization with the right to exclude anyone from membership.

San Francisco may have a population with a higher than average percentage of homosexuals and those who are sympathetic to homosexuals. Yet despite major publicity over the homosexual issue, membership has increased by about 14 percent a year in the San Francisco Bay Area Council of the BSA.

Shields told WorldNetDaily in a phone interview that there are now about 1.2 million adult leaders and about 5 million members of Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Explorers -- a record high. Shields also pointed out that the BSA has not suffered financial loss.

Numerous homosexual activist groups have posted information on websites repeating information about major corporations that they claim have stopped donating to the BSA. WorldNetDaily found that most of those claims are false. The claims made by homosexual groups, such as Lambda Legal, appeared in the New York Times and were then repeated in many papers and news programs. (Editor's note: WorldNetDaily carried the link to the inaccurate New York Times story, and apologizes for having inadvertently spread the misinformation.)

Lambda Legal and various homosexual organizations claim a number of large corporations once gave to the Boy Scouts of America, but no longer do so because they disagree with the BSA policy on homosexuality. Investigations by WorldNetDaily and others have found that claim to be an exaggeration.

Shields told WorldNetDaily that the list is not accurate and said he is challenging members of the press to investigate for themselves by contacting each company directly.

Although Bank of America briefly banned the Boy Scouts from their list of acceptable worthy causes in 1992, they changed that policy shortly after it was announced. A company spokesman did not wish to be quoted, but confirmed that Bank of America does not have a ban on donations.

Wells Fargo did ban donations to the Scouts in 1992, but changed that policy in 1998, according to a company spokesman. Norwest Corp. merged with Wells Fargo and allowed all local bank presidents to determine how they want to handle donations.

First Interstate Bank never banned donations to the Boy Scouts, according to a spokesman. News accounts from 1992 indicate only that a ban was considered at that time, but there were no reports of an actual ban.

Chase Manhattan Bank issued a statement last week to announce plans to continue financial support for the BSA. The bank provides $200,000 a year to the Boy Scouts. Withdrawal of support would be "harmful to thousands of children," according to the statement. The New York Times had reflected the press releases of homosexual activist groups in claiming the bank does not plan to donate to the scouts.

Levi Strauss & Company is the only company on the list that has been reported on accurately. However, Shields said there has been no impact on the programs of the Boy Scouts because of the loss of donations from Levi Strauss & Company, which stopped donating to BSA in 1992 as a protest over the homosexual issue.

Textron, Inc. never donated to the Boy Scouts until 1999 when it gave $3,000 to a local group in Rhode Island, according to spokeswoman Susan Bishop. Textron decided not to give to the Boy Scouts directly, but permits subsidiary companies to do so. Textron owns Bell Helicopters, Cessna Citation jets, E-Z-GO golf carts, Kautex fuel tanks, Camcar fasteners, Textron Financial, Textron Automotive, Textron Fastening Systems, Textron Golf and Turf, OmniQuip Textron, Greenlee Textron, Textron Fluid and Power, and Textron Industrial Components. The parent company does not place any restrictions on any of the subsidiary companies and permits donations to the BSA, according to Bishop.

Homosexual activist groups have claimed, and a number of news organizations have reported, that Textron, Inc. has given hundreds of thousands of dollars to the Boy Scouts.

"Companies like Chase Manhattan Bank and Textron Inc., have withdrawn hundreds of thousands of dollars in support to local and national scouting groups nationwide," reported Kate Zernike in her Aug. 29 New York Times article.

Bishop pointed out that Textron never did have a policy regarding the Boy Scouts prior to April 2000, and never gave money to the Boy Scouts beyond the $3,000 donated in 1999 to a local group. She emphasized that donations are left up to the subsidiary companies owned by Textron.

"Last year we gave $3,000 to a local (BSA) fundraising dinner, and we declined to do that this year," said Bishop.

Zernike also reported that "dozens of United Ways from Massachusetts to San Francisco have cut off money amounting to millions of dollars each year." Since then, the Times has run a correction and said the actual number of United Ways that have defunded the Boy Scouts is more like a "dozen" rather than "dozens."

United Way of America does not tell its 1,400 local chapters how to handle the BSA issue. Less than 12 local United Way chapters have discontinued donations to the Boy Scouts, according to a United Way national spokesman. Other chapters are in the process of considering a ban.

Shields said the loss of a few United Way chapters is disappointing, but it will not change the stand taken by the BSA on the homosexual issue.

"We have never accepted homosexual leaders and we will never accept homosexual leaders," he stated.

The Traditional Values Coalition, a family-values activist organization representing 43,000 churches in America, has also investigated the claims made by the New York Times and activist groups. Rev. Louis P. Sheldon, chairman, said he has found that most corporations have not banned donations to the Boy Scouts at all.

"When we've called these groups," said Sheldon, "we find out that in fact they have not decided to defund the scouts at all."

He said he also learned that AMICA, an insurance holding company, has been reported by some groups to be opposed to the BSA policy on homosexuals. His investigation discovered that the company never decided to stop donations to the BSA and will continue to do so.

Sheldon also confirmed that Bank of America reversed its decision to withhold donations.

"Bank of America went through over $100 million of withdrawals when they said they were going to defund the Boy Scouts," he explained. "They changed their position years ago."

First Union bank considered a ban on donations to the Boy Scouts, but decided instead to continue, according to an official statement.

"It is First Union's intention to evaluate each of its corporate contributions to ensure that they achieve an appropriate balance between inclusiveness and community service, and that they are consistent with First Union's core values. Over the past several weeks, First Union has engaged in thoughtful and engaging discussions with regard to the issues surrounding its support of the Boy Scouts of America. As a result of these discussions, First Union will continue to support the Boy Scouts of America. First Union believes that the Boy Scouts offer programs to America's youth that are meaningful and positive," said the company statement First Union e-mailed to WorldNetDaily.

Sheldon said the homosexual activists would not stop their effort to hurt the Boy Scouts financially, and said he plans to continue to ask the members of the 43,000 churches he represents to fight back.

"We're calling upon every American to put pressure on Corporate America to continue --and to increase -- funding for the Boy Scouts. We are also calling upon corporate heads to reject the strident demands of homosexual activists to destroy whatever groups they cannot control," said Sheldon. "Corporate America should stand alongside the Boy Scouts for morality, decency, and honesty."

"Corporate America must make a choice," said Sheldon. "Businessmen must decide if they're going to support homosexual sodomy over the Boy Scouts. If they choose sodomy over the Scouts, the American people should rise up to boycott their products."

Trip by Chinese to U.S. military site raises concern

Chinese military officials were briefed yesterday on how the United States develops joint training for its forces at a sensitive U.S. military facility in southern Virginia, a spokesman for the Joint Forces Command said.
"This is a routine visit where J-7 guides them through how we develop training and doctrine," said Navy Cmdr. Linc Smith, spokesman for the Norfolk-based command.

Asked why the command is helping the Chinese military to develop joint warfare training, Cmdr. Smith said the briefing was a "general orientation" on joint training. "I know that doesn't answer your question on why we are doing this," he said.

Other Pentagon spokesmen also could not explain why the Chinese military is being briefed on U.S. training, other than to say it is part of a military diplomacy program.

The visit by the Chinese delegation from the Academy of Military Sciences has been cloaked in secrecy. It began Aug. 18 and continues to Sept. 1 with stops at military bases, schools and the Pentagon.

Pentagon spokesmen have refused to identify the members of the delegation, other than its leader, Gen. Wang Zuxun, the director of the academy.

Cmdr. Smith said the small group of Chinese military officials visited the command's Joint Training Directorate, known as J-7, located in nearby Suffolk, Va.

The host for the Chinese visit was the directorate's chief, Army Maj. Gen. William Wallace, who led the group to the Joint Training Analysis and Simulation Center, Cmdr. Smith said. The center is where advanced war-fighting concepts are developed.

Beginning today, the Chinese are expected to tour the Pentagon before heading to the U.S. Pacific Command in Hawaii.

Sen. Robert C. Smith, New Hampshire Republican, said the visit appears to violate congressional restrictions passed last year on military exchanges with China that could benefit Chinese war-fighting capabilities.
Cmdr. Smith said the Chinese did not visit the Joint Experimentation Battle Lab and received no classified information on U.S. warfighting techniques.

Sen. Jesse Helms, North Carolina Republican and chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, also questioned the Chinese military delegation's visit. "No doubt the Clinton-Gore administration will have a clever legal argument justifying the guided tour they are giving the Chinese Communist military at our Joint Forces Command ---- despite last year's legislation outlawing such visits," Helms spokesman Mark Thiessen said.

"It is richly ironic, not to mention stupid, for the administration to be conducting such exchanges with a potential adversary at precisely the time the administration is desperately opposing modest upgrades in defense exchanges with Taiwan that are called for in the Taiwan Security Enhancement Act," Mr. Thiessen said.

Pentagon officials said U.S. defense officials have visited some Chinese military education centers but have not been permitted to see the Academy of Military Sciences, which provides classified military assessments to senior Chinese military leaders.

The legislation prohibits any military exchanges that would create a national security risk due to inappropriate exposure to U.S. military facilities or information.

Richard Fisher, a specialist on the Chinese military, said combat training and simulation is a "glaring deficiency" for China's forces and an area where the military is seeking to improve.

"Any access they gain to our systems will benefit their training and war-fighting capabilities," Mr. Fisher said.

Twenty-five senior Chinese military officers are in Boston to learn details about U.S. decision-making that critics say will help China fight the United States in a conflict over Taiwan.

The People's Liberation Army (PLA) officers arrived Saturday. They include 24 senior colonels and one navy captain who will spend two weeks at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government, according to Clinton administration officials close to the program.
The officers are there to hear lectures by current and former U.S. national security officials who have discussed how the United States would respond to a crisis over Taiwan.
"Most of the officers are intelligence collectors or technology collectors," said one knowledgeable official.
Other visiting officers are from components of the Chinese military involved in directing unconventional warfare against the United States, a key element of China's emerging war-fighting strategy.
"The Chinese plan to use this information to manipulate the U.S. decision-making process and paralyze us during a crisis," said one official. "And many of these visiting officers are involved in just that type of activity."
The group includes colonels from the Central Military Commission, the top Communist Party organ that controls the military; the PLA general staff department, and various regional military command headquarters units.
It is the third group of colonels to attend Harvard as part of its "China Initiative," which was set up in 1997 with a $1 million grant from Nina Kung, a Hong Kong businesswomen who heads Chinachem, a chemical manufacturer with extensive ties to mainland China.
In the past three groups, the Chinese have questioned their lecturers on U.S. decision-making in a crisis, the officials said.
Another Chinese objective for what Harvard calls its executive program for Chinese security affairs is to conduct "political influence operations" —— spreading propaganda aimed at influential academics and U.S. policy-makers that China's military buildup poses no threat to the United States.
A second propaganda theme of the colonels' is to discredit any U.S. officials or Americans who view China as a potential enemy.
Officials said China does not allow similar two-week exchange programs for U.S. military officers at a major Chinese university. Visits to China by U.S. military officers are severely restricted, the officials said.
The colonels' visit coincides with a disputed military exchange program underway that involves Pentagon-sponsored visits by Chinese officers to sensitive U.S. military facilities.
A group of Chinese officers, including three generals, was briefed last week on U.S. joint war-fighting training and simulation, an area the Chinese military is seeking to improve. They also are scheduled to visit the U.S. Pacific Command, which would be in charge of all U.S. forces in the Pacific.
That visit drew protests from Sen. Robert C. Smith, New Hampshire Republican, and Rep. Tom DeLay, Texas Republican, who questioned whether the visit violated a U.S. law passed last year that prohibits helping China develop its war-fighting expertise.
Officials said colonels who arrived at Harvard on Saturday are part of a "loophole" in the legislation that set up the Smith-DeLay guidelines for U.S. military exchanges. The Harvard program is not sponsored or funded by the Pentagon.
It was set up in 1997 by Joseph Nye, a former Clinton administration assistant defense secretary who is dean of the Kennedy School. Mr. Nye was the official viewed as the author of the Pentagon's soft-line policy toward China. He once stated that if China is treated like an enemy, it will become an enemy.
Since the accidental bombing of the China Embassy in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, last year, China in official writings has stated that the United States is its main enemy.
Former Bush administration arms control official Robert Blackwill, who at one time directed the China military program at Harvard, could not be reached for comment. Mr. Blackwill was in charge of drafting the Republican Party's platform during the presidential convention earlier this month.
Other Harvard officials involved in the program did not return telephone calls seeking comment on the colonels program.
After the Smith-DeLay guidelines became law, Pentagon lawyers rejected the arguments of critics who questioned the legality of the Harvard program, the officials said. The lawyers said allowing Pentagon and other U.S. officials to take part in the program would not violate the legal guidelines.
Last year, a senior Pentagon intelligence officer, Army Lt. Col. Lonnie Henley, sat in on the entire two-week program. During an earlier session, the Pentagon's top China policy-maker, Kurt Campbell, lectured the colonels.
Officials said the colonels this year are expected to seek answers on how U.S. policy toward Taiwan will be affected if Republican George W. Bush is elected president.
The Texas governor supports the Taiwan Security Enhancement Act that passed the House by a wide margin and is pending before the Senate. The act would bolster U.S. defense ties to Taiwan.
Mr. Bush's key campaign national security adviser, Condoleeza Rice, has said she does not regard China as a threat.
Marshall Goldman, associate director of Harvard's Davis Center for Russia Studies, has said he supports a similar Harvard exchange program with Russian officers. But he questioned the Chinese military program. "Almost all the Chinese are intelligence people," he told the Boston Globe.
According to U.S. intelligence sources, in order to win Chinese government cooperation, Harvard provided assurances to the Chinese military that U.S. intelligence agencies, namely the CIA and FBI, would not seek to recruit any of the visiting PLA officers as spies.
The agreement also calls for restricting access to the Harvard campus by FBI counterintelligence agents engaged in surveillance of intelligence activities carried out by the colonels.

Two Bavarian lawyers are trying to protect children from reading the Bible because of its purportedly violent, homophobic and anti-Semitic content. The two have written German Family Minister Christine Bergmann on behalf of a few parents of minors, asking the Bible to be put on a list of books considered dangerous for children.

"It preaches genocide, racism, enmity towards Jews, gruesome executions for adulterers and homosexuals, the murder of one's own children and many other perversities," Christian Sailer and Gert-Joachim Hetzel said about the Bible in an Agence France Press report. The Bible should remain on the dangerous list until the "bloodthirsty and human rights-violating passages" were taken out, they said.

The German critics might ask themselves what would replace the Bible as a guide for young minds. Perhaps the lawyers' bible would provide a gentler, kinder text with a more politically correct and scientifically plausible plot. Jesus would not be the Son of God, but a good guy who had excelled in yoga and contributed to charities for AIDS and the dying rain forests -- a token spiritual practitioner and a token community service specialist.

The disciples, a boring cluster of Jews only, would have to be more representative of the general population. A disabled man, a "transgendered" person and a women's rights activist, all of varying hues, would head the list. And of course they wouldn't be called disciples; community advocates is more like it.

The stuff about "miracles" would obviously have to go. Subjecting children to tales of how Jesus walked on water and brought dead people back to life is as good as brainwashing them into believing in the existence of Santa Claus or the tooth fairy. Above all, the lawyers would have to leave out the part about the crucifixion. Too messy. Better to have Jesus ride off into the sunset in his sport utility vehicle (hiking around Galilee can be quite a trek), settle down and get in touch with his feelings.

And when the Bavarian legal warriors put down their red pens, they can take satisfaction in knowing that they have turned what was once called the greatest story ever told into something current, relevant and devoid of any meaning but that which the lawyers in their wisdom intend. If the revised version can't guarantee paradise for its students, perhaps they can negotiate a favorable long-term settlement with God. At least according to the current version of the Bible, He can forgive even lawyers their sins.

Asian missile buildup

The Pentagon moved several dozen conventional air-launched cruise missiles to the island of Guam earlier this month. The transfer marked the first time the precision-guided weapons will be based outside the continental United States.

The missile deployment to the U.S. island, located in the Pacific about 1,500 miles east of the Philippines, will likely fuel suspicions in China about possible U.S. attacks during a conflict between the mainland and Taiwan, Pentagon officials said.

The forward deployment means U.S. bombers will be able to hit any place in the Asia-Pacific region within 12 hours with the ground-hugging warhead, they said.

The deployment was opposed by the Joint Chiefs of Staff for years. The chiefs expressed concerns for the security for a missile regarded as one of the Pentagon's premier weapons.

The 3,000-pound cruise missiles were used to such an extent against Serbia last year that planners worried the Air Force might run out.

The missile deployment was approved after appeals from the U.S. combatant commanders, specifically the commander in chief of the U.S. Pacific Command, Adm. Dennis Blair.

Lights out

When Lt. Gen. Fred McCorkle, the head of Marine Corps aviation, briefed reporters on the cause of the deadly V-22 Osprey crash, he adamantly refused to let television cameras record the moment. TV reporters understandably squawked, but Marines believe Gen. McCorkle was justified.

He had just finished speaking privately with the wife of the pilot, Maj. John Brow. For two hours, he explained to the grief-stricken woman why the investigation blamed her husband's excessive rate of descent as the cause of an accident that killed all 19 aboard.

Gen. McCorkle didn't want the woman's trauma exacerbated by TV networks repeatedly replaying the image of a Marine general blaming another Marine for the tragedy.

Red team leader

The Navy will finish its annual Global 2000 war game today. One secret scenario: a regional conflict between the United States and a large Asia nation with a billion people known as Red (communist China).

We were unable to learn the outcome, but if past history is any measure, China always loses and the United States always wins.

The reason, we are told, is the key manager of the Red forces during the war games, retired Rear Adm. Eric McVadon, a former attachéé in Beijing and key promoter of the China-is-not-a-threat theory.

Adm. McVadon for several years has taken part in managing the Red team that plays the game as Chinese military forces against the United States.

The ex-admiral is the key advocate of China's military as a "junkyard army'' too weak and backward to be a threat to the United States for at least 20 years.

The view fits nicely with the Clinton administration's pro-China policies that seek to play down the growing threat from China.

A spokesman for the Naval War College in Newport, R.I., said the game involves some 400 current and former officials and is classified secret because of "the scenario.''

Adm. McVadon also wields important influence inside the U.S. government on assessing China. CIA analysts rely on him to bolster their dovish Chinese views. He is a member of the ongoing "Team B'' group of China experts formed by the CIA. This group was a response to congressional pressure for intelligence agencies to produce more realistic assessments of China than those put forth by intelligence insiders.

"The outcome of the game depends almost completely on the opposing team,'' said one official.

Ken Watman, director of war gaming at the Naval War College, declined to say if a China conflict was one of the war scenarios but he said U.S. forces usually win.

However, Mr. Watman said this year's program included between 250 and 300 current and former military and civilian officials and involved exercises in "network-centric warfare'' -- the use of computers and advanced information technology "to revolutionize the way wars are fought.''

The game also involved "heated arguments'' about how to proceed in conflict, he said, without elaborating.

Church backs vicar's sex-change operation

A CHURCH of England vicar told yesterday of his "sheer terror" as he sat down to compose a letter to his bishop announcing his intention to enjoy a new life as a woman.

The Rev Peter Stone, 46, said that he had expected the worst. However, his fears were to prove unfounded as both his congregation and the Bishop of Bristol declared that they would back his decision to become the first female parish priest in Britain to have begun life as a man.

The twice-married clergyman, who will be changing his name to Carol, intends to carry on as Vicar of St Philip's at Upper Stratton near Swindon in Wiltshire. He broke the news to his parishioners at the service on Sunday to a round of applause.

He told a press conference at Bishop's House in Bristol yesterday that he had felt trapped in the wrong body since the age of four or five.

He said: "It has been a lifetime's journey. My earliest memory has been that of wishing to be other than I am. Every night I would pray to God to wake up as a girl."

Mr Stone's prayers will be answered later this summer when he undergoes a sex change operation at a private hospital. Until then he will not be dressing as a woman, despite having taken a course of female hormones for a year. He said: "I decided to wait because I have half a dozen weddings that I want to look after."

In normal circumstances anyone wishing to have a sex change needs to live as the opposite sex for two years before they will be accepted for the irreversible surgery. Mr Stone said that doctors had granted him special dispensation because of the responsibilities of his public position.

He wrote to the Bishop of Bristol, the Right Rev Barry Rogerson, in January stating that he had been diagnosed with gender dismorphia, a condition in which the sufferer feels trapped in a body of the wrong sex. He said: "I did feel sheer terror. Everything was on the line. I had no precedent to work on so when I wrote the letter I did so with hope, faith and trust."

"I really had to expect the worst. It has turned out that after a lifetime of personal anguish and secrecy I find it truly remarkable to be here."

"It is beyond my wildest imagination that this has been accepted and my people accepted me and I now look forward to new beginnings. Theologically you can only deal with what you have been given but I wish God had not made me quite the way he had."

Mr Stone, dressed in a beige summer suit and his clerical dog collar, sat nervously on a sofa beside the bishop as he told how his 18-year-old daughter from his first marriage had been "totally supportive" of his decision. He said that he had first considered having the operation shortly after her birth. The only clues to his new identity were obviously pierced ears and just a hint of clear nail varnish.

Both his marriages ended in divorce. He said that his second wife had known of his confusion but it had not been the principal reason for the failure of the marriage. He has no immediate plans to marry again.

The Bishop of Bristol said that the arrival of the Mr Stone's letter had been surprise. He replied with a holding letter while consulting experts including the Archbishop of Canterbury on both Mr Stone's medical condition and the theological implications. Having concluded there were no legal, ethical or moral objections, he contacted Mr Stone to let him know the Church would give him its backing.

The bishop said : "I think it was summed up when one or two members of Peter's congregation said to me 'he is still a human being and he is still the same person to us'."

AT LEAST one retired priest in the Church of England is understood to have already had a sex-change operation. Up to 20 clergy are thought to consider themselves to be "trans-gender" and meet regularly in a group called Sibyls.

Two years ago a nonconformist minister in South Wales, the Rev Bill Parry, a former blacksmith with six grandchildren, stunned his congregation by announcing that he wished to live under the name of Dian Parry. He was sacked and is to have the first of his sex change operations this summer.

The most famous transsexual in the story of the Church was Pope Joan, the Englishwoman who disguised herself as a man and became Pope in the ninth century. Although her existence is disputed, a book and a novel have recently been published about her.

Sex-change operations and transsexual behavior are opposed the most strongly in evangelical churches, where the most commonly cited text is Deuteronomy xxii, 5: "A woman shall not wear anything that pertains to a man, nor shall a man put on a woman's garment, for whoever does these things is an abomination."

The Church of England line is more liberal. A secret working group has been set up to examine the issue of transsexual behavior and "gender redesignation".

WASHINGTON - Great Britain's national DNA database, the world's largest crime-solving computer system, has mistakenly matched an innocent man to a burglary - a one-in-37 million possibility that American experts call "mind-blowing."

The mismatch, thought to be the first major mistake produced by a national DNA database, has sent shock waves through law enforcement communities not only in Great Britain but also in the United States, where DNA databases are based on the British model.

British authorities fear that the error might prompt thousands of people convicted through DNA testing to appeal their convictions.

U.S. officials say similar mismatches could occur here as DNA testing of convicts becomes more widespread. "This is mind-blowing," says the FBI's Stephen Niezgoda, manager of the American national database program. "Everyone will be watching to see how this plays out."

The mistaken identification was disclosed by British authorities last month during a meeting with members of the National Commission on the Future of DNA Evidence, the Justice Department's DNA task force.

Notes of the meeting were examined by USA TODAY and confirmed by Britain's Forensic Science Service, which maintains that nation's DNA database.

Last year, police in the British city of Manchester lifted DNA, an individual's unique genetic code, from evidence left at the scene of a burglary.

The DNA profile was submitted to the national database, where a computer matched it to one of 660,000 previous arrestees whose DNA was on file.

The DNA profiles matched at six points of identification, or loci, along the DNA molecule. British authorities estimated that the likelihood of that match occurring at random was one in 37 million.

But after the suspect provided an alibi, police asked for a retest. This time, a new technique, which examines 10 loci and has a one-in-1 billion likelihood of mismatch, was used. The suspect's DNA did not match at all the additional loci and he was released.

British authorities say the mismatch probably was caused by the rapidly increasing size of their database, which has grown from 470,000 potential suspects to 660,000 in the past year.

As more profiles are added, the possibility of suspects with very similar DNA increases, the British say. "It isn't a mistake in the laboratory; this was something to be expected," database spokesman Rob Smith said. "There's no cause for alarm."

But Angela Flower, who investigates possible wrongful convictions for a British government appeals board, called the mistaken identification a "quite worrying phenomenon."

"Everybody in the U.K. who has ever been convicted on six-point (DNA) profiling will want to apply to us to have their convictions reviewed," she said.

American experts say a similar mismatch could occur here as the U.S. national DNA database adds profiles. The U.S. database, which was begun in 1998, is about half the size of its British counterpart. The FBI currently tests DNA at 13 points of identification. But states, which maintain their own databases, often test fewer loci.

"Greater peace and security" in the world are due to "the increased influence globalization is having on mankind's political and economic progress," according to a joint statement released by a group of former Soviet republics preparing for the upcoming United Nations Millennium Summit to be held in New York City Sept. 6-8.

The signatories of the joint statement hope that the Millennium Summit will work toward "building a multi-polar world and promoting global security." The former Soviet republics issuing the statement are all members of the Commonwealth of Independent States, successor entity to the defunct U.S.S.R.

"Regional and sub-regional integration is all-important ... because it helps tackle social and economic problems," according to the signers of the joint statement.

The statements were carried by the Voice of Russia World Service, the official broadcasting service of the Russian government.

The CIS summit took place in Yalta, now part of Ukraine, on Aug. 18 and was cut short from the scheduled two days to one. Russian President Vladimir Putin - the acknowledged leader of the CIS - was forced to attend to the increasingly dire news regarding the sunken Russian submarine, the Kursk.

Without Putin's presence, the other 11 members of the CIS were unable to continue the formal summit meeting. The members did hold what the Voice of Russia referred to as a "one day informal meeting" which centered upon the discussion of "multi- and bi-lateral cooperation," a "common CIS stand," in advance of the U.N. Millennium Summit. They also issued the joint statement on the summit itself.

The Millennium Summit will take place following the Millennium Assembly, which will open on the afternoon of Sept. 5. The U.N. is billing the summit as "likely to be the largest single gathering of heads of state and/or government ever held in the world." The U.N. General Assembly designated the "turn of the century" as "a unique and symbolically compelling moment ... to articulate and affirm an animating vision for the United Nations in the new era."

"The summit will be a historic opportunity to agree on a process for fundamental review of the role of, and challenges facing, the United Nations in the new century," according to the U.N. sources.

The ability of the CIS members at Yalta to come to a "common stand" in advance of the Millennium Summit - even without Russian leadership - confirms Moscow's recent boast that Western attempts, especially by NATO, to lessen Russia's hold on the nations of the CIS have failed.

Despite Western efforts since the fall of the Soviet Union to lure the newly independent former Soviet republics away from Russia, Moscow remains the dominant partner among them. Of the 15 republics that comprised the former Soviet Union, only the Baltic states of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia have slipped from Moscow's grasp.

"In the military area," according to a recent statement from Moscow, the Soviet republics that comprise the CIS "find it more beneficial to cooperate with Russia" than NATO, adding that "the future [of these states] belongs to integration" with Russia.

NATO's intervention in the Kosovo crisis is held as an object lesson for the commonwealth members.

"All of us have seen how NATO tried to resolve the Kosovo crisis with bombing. The CIS countries are hardly likely to want to see such things happening to themselves," according to Moscow.

According to an analysis carried on the Voice of Russia, "Russia ... must act as the locomotive of integration for that part of the Commonwealth which wants to participate in the process."

In addition to growing military cooperation with Moscow, the former Soviet republics continue to bind themselves closer to Russia in a number of areas.

The Central Asian republics are joining with Moscow in a common power grid that will stretch from Europe far into Asia. The Caucasus republics of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia are also joining in a common power grid with Russia.

The Stalinist republic of Belarus has gone farther than any of the other former Soviet Republics by forming a Union State with Russia. At present, Russia and Belarus are negotiating the merger of their two economies, including their currencies.

Saddam Hussein may have lost the Gulf War, but he's still around and with a nuclear weapons program in place may be a greater threat than ever.

Experts familiar with Saddam's attempts to build nuclear weapons fear he may be on the verge of success, and some warn that he might just be getting ready to loose a nuclear-armed missile in observance of the 10th anniversary of his defeat at the hands of a U.S.-led coalition. "I think he's very close," Shyam Bhatia, a former Iraq correspondent for Britain's Guardian newspaper and co-author of "Brighter Than the Baghdad Sun," told CBN News (report available at cbn.org/newsstand).

"If you can think of the nuclear bomb as a gun and a bullet, then Saddam has assembled the gun, right?" he said. "He's tested the barrel; he's pressed the trigger; he has even used dummy bullets. Everything works. The only thing he lacks is the live ammunition. And if he gets that live ammunition, another word for plutonium or weapons-grade uranium, he will have the bomb."

Stephen Dolley agrees. The research director at the Nuclear Control Institute told CBN News: "There's good reason to believe Saddam has all the actual components he needs for one of three nuclear weapons."

"It takes very little of this material to make a nuclear weapon effective," he explained.

"An amount of plutonium the size of a small grapefruit would be enough to make a nuclear weapon, and you don't need that much more highly enriched uranium. I mean, someone could literally put it in a large briefcase and carry it over the border."

"The time frame for Saddam to get a nuclear weapon depends on what he has to do to get the fissile material," Dolley added. "Once the plutonium or HEU is in hand, assuming they already have the components, and there's reason to believe they do, it could be done in a matter of weeks or maybe even days."

According to Ambassador Richard Butler, former chairman of the United Nations weapons inspection program in Iraq and author of "The Greatest Threat," his group was never able to penetrate the wall of secrecy Saddam erected around his nuclear weapons program.

"We faced massive resistance," he said. "We tried to fight it, and we failed."

"He deeply believes that the Arab world needs a leader, and he obviously thinks he's the prime candidate for that," Butler said. "For that purpose, he believes he needs to be the most muscular guy on the block."

Some observers think Saddam might already have a nuclear bomb hidden, just waiting until he has a dependable missile to carry it to its target. CBN News reports that last month it was discovered that he has speeded up his missile development program. According to the London Times, Iraq is secretly negotiating with Russian companies to build a factory to make navigational components for long-range ballistic missiles.

Although the U.N. is preparing to send weapons inspectors back to Baghdad to check on Saddam's progress in building nuclear weapons, nobody knows if he will allow them in.

"When it comes to the point where the U.N. inspectors ask, under the resolution passed last December, to go back into Iraq and hunt for weapons of mass destruction, Saddam Hussein will most likely say, 'You and what army?' '' Dolley said.

"There's no army to back that up. There is really no support for military action on the Security Council. Three out of five of the permanent members, France, Russia and China, not only would (not) support military action, but they want the sanctions lifted now."

Butler warns that Saddam cannot be dismissed as a has-been - that he's someone the United States is going to have to face again.

"The existence of a person like Saddam, with his addiction to these weapons, means that as long as they're there, they will be used, either by a terrorist group or some other way," Butler said. "No one should sleep easily in their beds at night."

Toronto (ENI). Faced with more than 350 lawsuits over alleged physical and sexual abuse at church-run schools, the Anglican Church of Canada (ACC) is making significant cuts to budgets and staff. The ACC's general synod - the church's national governing body - and eight of its 30 dioceses are named in lawsuits claiming that indigenous people suffered cultural, physical and sexual abuse as children at residential schools operated by the church on behalf of Canada's federal government.

Fetal tissue marketers cash in using legal loophole

Ever since President Clinton signed the National Institutes of Health Revitalization Act of 1993, "fetal-tissue research" has expanded into a federally subsidized multi-million dollar industry of selling human spare parts salvaged from abortions.

For example, the NIH budgeted $21 million in fiscal year 1999 for grants and awards for fetal tissue research. At the University of Washington, the NIH subsidizes the central laboratory for human embryology. According to a lab notice obtained by WorldNetDaily, it "can supply tissue from normal or abnormal embryos and fetuses of desired gestational ages between 40 days to term. Specimens are obtained within minutes of passage, and tissues are aseptically identified, staged, and immediately processed according to the requirements of individual investigators." The notice is signed by Alan G. Fantel of the department of pediatrics.

According to the international business consulting firm of Frost and Sullivan, "the worldwide market for cell lines and tissue cultures brought in nearly $428 million in corporate revenues in 1996." It is estimated this market will grow at an annual rate of 13.5 percent and by 2002 will be worth nearly $1 billion.

Two organizations that profit from this growth industry are Opening Lines, a business formerly located in West Frankfort, Illinois, and Anatomic Gift Foundation, headquartered in Laurel, Maryland. Both companies serve as wholesalers for the marketing of baby body parts to researchers, drug companies, hospitals and universities. These groups harvest the parts from abortion clinics and ship them to their customers.

Opening Lines was founded in 1997 by Dr. Miles Jones. His partner, Gayla Rose, ran the day-to-day operation. Opening Lines recently shut its business down in West Frankfort after Mark Crutcher, head of the pro-life activist organization Life Dynamics, sent a press kit on Jones' baby parts business to West Frankfort's paper, the Daily American. Managing Editor Shannon Woodworth ran a front-page cover story with the headline: "Pro-Lifers: Baby body parts sold out of West Frankfort."

Within a week after the story broke, Gayla Rose shut down the company's office and Jones disappeared. Both Opening Lines phone numbers have been disconnected. When WorldNetDaily contacted Rose at her home for an interview, she simply said, "Not interested" and hung up.

A receptionist in Jones' office in Lee Summit, Missouri, abruptly hung up on WorldNetDaily in response to an interview request.

Jones' group has been more open and aggressive in its marketing of baby parts than AGF. While AGF has a soft-sell approach, the Opening Lines advertising brochure tells prospective buyers, "We can provide you with the exact tissue to meet your needs. We obtain and maintain appropriate confidential consent and basic medical histories for fetal tissue donation." Another portion of the brochure says, "Our objective is to give you the highest quality products prepared to your specifications and delivered when you need it." Opening Lines boasts of more than 1,500 deliveries of fetal parts per day.

Opening Lines provides fetal tissue researchers with a "fee for service schedule," which gives prices for each body part. For example, Opening Lines charges $150 for a spinal column; $400 for an intact embryonic cadaver; $75 for the eyeballs of an eight-week-old baby (with a 40 percent discount for a single eye); $150 for two arms or legs; and $100 for the skin of a 12-week-old baby.

Opening Lines gives credit to President Clinton for opening up the lucrative business in fetal tissue trade. According to Opening Lines, on January 22, 1993, Clinton lifted the moratorium on federal funding. "This action created a great demand for fetal tissue and has made possible the development of treatments for individuals afflicted with serious diseases and disorders," says the sales brochure.

AGF was founded in 1994 by Jim and Brenda Bardsley in Georgia. The headquarters has since been moved to Laurel, Maryland, where Jim Bardsley's brother, Brent, is its executive director.

With offices in Arizona and Colorado, AGF's Aurora, Colorado, office is located inside the Mayfair Women's Clinic, an abortion facility. A nonprofit organization with 15 employees at present, AGF's annual budget went from $180,000 in 1994 to $2 million in 1998.

Brenda Bardsley was interviewed by World magazine not long ago. "Abortion is legal, but tragic," she said. "We see what we're doing as trying to make the best of a bad situation. We don't encourage abortion, but we see that good can come from fetal-tissue research. There is so much wonderful research going on -- research that can help save the lives of wanted children."

AGF doesn't charge per body part. It charges a flat fee per specimen. For a fresh, second trimester infant (13-24 weeks) aborted by Dilation and Extraction (D&E), AGF charges $90; for a frozen specimen, $130. AGF charges $240 for a fresh 6-40 week spontaneously aborted infant, and the fee goes up to $280 if the specimen is frozen.

The National Organ Transplant Act was amended in 1988 to specifically prohibit the sale of fetal tissue and organs. It states, "It shall be unlawful for any person to knowingly acquire, receive, or otherwise transfer any human organ for valuable consideration for use in human transplantation if the transfer affects interstate commerce." The Fetal Tissue Act also prohibits women from aborting their infants to donate the tissue for financial gain, or to benefit a relative or friend. The law is designed to remove any personal benefit from aborting an infant.

However, Opening Lines and AGF have discovered a "legal" way to circumvent these laws. To avoid violating them, neither group "buys" nor "sells" fetal tissues and body parts. The abortion clinic "donates" fetal tissue to the wholesaler who then "donates" the tissue to the research facility.

In order to compensate the abortion clinic for its services, the wholesaler will rent space in the clinic for its own personnel to harvest the baby body parts. AGF's on-site office at the Mayfair Women's Clinic in Aurora, Colorado, helps "pay" for the fetal tissue.

The wholesaler then donates the tissue to the researcher or university, but charges processing fees. According to Crutcher, as long as the wholesaler's processing fee is higher than his rental fee to the abortion clinic, he's making money.

Fetal profits promoting partial-birth abortions?
Former clinic insider cites need for intact baby parts

An abortion clinic routinely performed partial-birth abortions and even live births in order to maximize the profits from the subsequent sale of undamaged fetal tissue, claims a former technician for a business that markets fetal body parts.

"Kelly" -- the name is a pseudonym -- worked for Anatomic Gift Foundation (AGF), which sells fetal tissue to researchers, drug companies, hospitals and universities. Although marketing fetal tissue is a violation of federal law, a major loophole has allowed a burgeoning growth industry in the sale of baby body parts.

Working in AGF's rented space inside the abortion clinic, Kelly's job was to collect fetal tissue and body part "donations" from the clinic for AGF. After an abortion, Kelly would survey the various orders for body parts she had received from AGF's clients, and make sure these orders were filled in a timely manner.

Nearly two years ago, Kelly says, the doctor in charge entered her office holding twins at 24 weeks gestation -- both gasping for air -- and told her they were "good specimens." Expected to end the lives of the premature infants and harvest their organs, Kelly says she told the doctor, "I don't do this. That's not in my contract." The doctor subsequently placed the twins in a pan and poured sterile water over them, she says, adding that she left the room as they drowned.

From that point on, Kelly began gathering photocopies of the fetal tissue order forms from various universities and research facilities and offered them to Mark Crutcher, founder of the pro-life organization Life Dynamics in Denton, Texas.

Neither Kelly nor Crutcher will identify the abortion clinic. "We are still getting information out of that facility (from others)," said Crutcher, "and giving the location would jeopardize our ability to continue doing that." He is also concerned about Kelly's safety, he said. "If we told even what state the facility is in, they would know who Kelly was within an hour, and our other infiltrators, and we'd be out of the hunt."

"Since Kelly has come forward," added Crutcher, "we have had new people, other former employees of fetal harvesting businesses, coming forward and giving us information."

Recently, Kelly has appeared on a video documentary produced by Life Dynamics -- with her back to the camera and her voice electronically altered -- describing her experience of working in the abortion clinic. In it, she states that live births were routine, with the doctor frequently bringing in live infants from 16 weeks up to 30 weeks of gestation. "He would either break their necks or beat them with tongs until they died," she said. In addition, Kelly said:

· She harvested parts from 30 to 40 late-term fetuses each week, of up to 30 weeks in gestation. Partial-birth abortion was used in many instances to obtain undamaged fetal material.

· The order forms described what kind of parts the researchers wanted, and sometimes described how the surgery should be performed to provide intact specimens.

· The abortionists routinely altered their procedures, based on the order forms' specifications, in order to procure the best specimens. The researchers were typically seeking tissue from healthy fetuses. "We did not use specimens that had STDs or fetal abnormalities," said Kelly. "We only wanted the most perfect specimens that we could give to the researchers."

Eric Harrah, a former abortion clinic worker, says that "live births" were the industry's "dirty little secret." In the industry for 11 years and owner or partner in 26 abortion clinics, Harrah said, "it was always very disturbing, so the doctor would try to conceal it from the rest of the staff."

Live births from partial-birth abortions recently made headlines in Ohio when a woman was being prepared for an abortion at the Women's Med Center in Dayton. The woman went into premature labor and was then admitted to a Dayton hospital where she gave birth to a 25-to-26-week-old infant. Women's Med Center is operated by Dr. Martin Haskell, the developer of partial-birth abortion. According to news reports, this was the second time in four months that a woman had given birth during preparations for a partial-birth abortion at the center.

The increasing demand for intact fetal body parts is the main reason the abortion industry wants to protect partial-birth abortion from any restrictions, Crutcher says. Partial-birth abortion "is about maximizing profits. First, you sell the woman an abortion. Then you turn around and sell the dead baby you take out of her. But you have to take it out whole, or you don't have anything to sell."

Brenda Bardsley, co-founder of AGF, granted WND an exclusive interview to rebut the charges made against her organization and its practices. Bardsley says there is no "Kelly," and questioned her story's credibility. She noted that AGF once had a man working for her group, whom she characterized as a "loose cannon." She said he was fired and "has a bone to pick" with AGF. She also believes he's being used as a weapon for Crutcher's political purposes.

Bardsley also told WND she is seeking legal counsel because of what she considers libelous statements made against AGF by Life Dynamics. "It looks like they're taking little bits of information that may be accurate about our organization, but blending them with information about the other organization (Opening Lines), that we have no ties to whatsoever."

According to Bardsley, "It burns my toast to be lumped in with Opening Lines and to be guilty by association. ... I don't approve of their methods."

AGF currently works with only two abortion clinics to harvest fetal tissues, said Bardsley, who added that she has other sources for tissue from spontaneous abortions. When asked if Kelly's accusations were true about "live births," she responded, "I can't confirm or deny that. I wasn't under the impression that any of the clinics we've ever worked with did any procedures on late term fetuses."

She did say, however, that if she learned that abortionists were delivering live infants for fetal tissue, she would stop doing business with them. She said she has stopped doing business with other clinics when she "felt that the only reason that they were working with us was to try to make money from it (fetal tissue harvesting)."

Bardsley also told WND that she and her associates have been discussing the possibility of discontinuing their involvement in fetal tissue harvesting, "only because it's interfering with our other procurements of tissues." Bardsley says fetal tissue marketing makes up only 10 percent of AGF's overall business. She is also quick to point out that she does not condone abortion. "I can understand the fervor over the issue of abortion, but we don't make those laws. It is legal in this country. What we do is intercede in a situation that's already there," says Bardsley.

Pedophile lawsuit goes class-action?

Currently facing a wrongful death lawsuit for the brutal rape and murder of 10-year-old Jeffrey Curley, the North American Man-Boy Love Association is now on the brink of defending itself against a class-action suit for the raping of children by group members.

A notorious and clandestine group, NAMBLA's leaders and members are difficult to identify and contact, making collection on any monetary damages difficult. However, attorney Larry Frisoli told WorldNetDaily he has "identified a significant financial contributor with assets in excess of $100 million," who works in the computer industry and is suspected of financing the highly secretive organization.

If NAMBLA loses the class-action lawsuit, individuals and parents of children who were involved in sexual relationships with members will be able to collect damages.

According to Frisoli, NAMBLA has anywhere from 300 to 1,300 members, depending on which time period is selected for the lawsuit, translating to thousands of children that would constitute the class in the suit.

The class action originated from Frisoli's representation of Robert and Barbara Curley, parents of Jeffrey Curley, who was raped and murdered by two college-age neighbors -- both of which are serving life sentences

As reported in WorldNetDaily, Salvatore Sicari and Charles Jaynes picked up Curley and took the boy to the Boston Public Library where Jaynes accessed NAMBLA's website. Later, the men attempted to sexually assault Curley, but the boy fought back. Attempting to restrain him, Jaynes gagged the 10-year-old with a gasoline-soaked rag, eventually killing him. The men put Jeffrey's body in a tub with concrete and threw it in a river.

According to Frisoli, Jaynes kept a diary in which he wrote that he turned to NAMBLA's website in order to gain psychological comfort for what he was about to do. The killer had been stalking Curley prior to the boy's murder.

Jeffrey's body was found floating in the tub of cement in October 1997, a few days after the fifth-grader had vanished.

An overt pedophile organization with office addresses in New York and San Francisco, NAMBLA provides resources to pedophiles seeking information about sexual relationships between men and boys. Its mission statement says the group "supports the rights of all people to engage in consensual relations, and we oppose laws which destroy loving relationships merely on the basis of the age of the participants."

The Curleys filed a $200 million lawsuit against NAMBLA, seven of its leaders and an unidentified Internet service provider in May.

The child-molesters' group was dropped by Verio, Inc., which had provided Internet service for the organization after Curley's death until May of this year. According to Frisoli, "On or about June 24, 2000, Web Intellects, Inc., a California-based Internet service provider, began providing Internet service for NAMBLA."

Two days after receiving a letter from Frisoli, the ISP discontinued service for the group.

The letter stated: "The purpose of this correspondence is to place Web Intellects Inc. on notice that you will be a defendant in the anticipated class action lawsuit on behalf of the thousands of children being raped by NAMBLA members in North America if you continue to provide the Internet communication system for NAMBLA and its members."

Frisoli said he already has information from several parents of children involved with NAMBLA members, and he plans to issue public notices to identify other victims for the class action.

The lawyer is also in contact with an attorney NAMBLA approached for the organization's defense, though Frisoli said the defense attorney has not yet committed to taking the case.

Robert Peters, president of Morality in Media in New York, told the Washington Times that recent legal victories over the Ku Klux Klan may bolster the case against NAMBLA.

The Southern Poverty Law Center successfully sued KKK leaders by holding them responsible for the actions of its members.

"If it can be done against the Klan, it seems to me that ... it should be possible to win against NAMBLA," Peters told the Times.

Child pornography is not protected speech under the First Amendment -- a fact that is sure to help the Curleys' case as well as the class-action suit.

Question: Why would NAMBLA urge child molesters to hold Kinsey's data "dear"?

Answer: Kinsey's fraudulent sexuality data justified sexual abuse of children and "sex education" -- like the recent conference when Massachusetts teachers trained children in sodomy and "fisting."

In "For Money or Love, Boy Prostitution in America," which was published in 1976, libertarian Robin Lloyd quotes former Sen. Birch Bayh, D-Ind., stating that the growing traffic in boy prostitution is "a hitherto undiscussed facet of the homosexual world." Says Lloyd, "Perhaps half of the million runaway boys in this country (aged 10 to 16) are peddling their bodies to 'chicken hawks' -- older men who lust for 'chicken' (boys)."

"There are tightly run organizations ... geared to provide wealthy clients with both pornography and boys. ... (T)heir boys will entertain movie stars, prominent athletes, politicians and, in some cases, heads of state."

Lloyd observes that "boy prostitutes in Times Square outnumber female hookers five to one."

Really? Why is the American public largely unaware that roughly 500,000 boys sell street sex to adult males of this great nation? Why are adult molesters -- infecting thousands of boys with AIDS -- not jailed for contributing to the delinquency of minors, statutory rape and premeditated murder?

Do "prominent" customers in the legislature, the White House, the Fourth Estate or the U.S. Justice Department cripple the criminal prosecution of child pornographers -- and worse?

Where do these boy prostitutes come from? Many are runaways from tragic homes, of course. But, largely invisible to decent parents, there is also a successful ongoing media and classroom campaign to recraft many, if not most, children into "bi / gay youth."

A recent report from Seventeen magazine claims that 54 percent of teens polled in 1999 (versus 17 percent polled in 1991) now find homosexuality admissible: "Teens today are likely to experiment: 21 percent ... have fantasized about fooling around with someone of the same sex -- and 15 percent say they have actually done so." And how has this gay fantasy emerged as a cultural phenomenon among children?

Establishment media and sex educators in the classroom both vigorously promote juvenile homosexual experimentation while suppressing the darker data on inter-gay violence -- data on men and boys battered and killed by sex clients, pickups, prostitutes and "lovers."

Especially hidden by both homosexual and establishment media are the tragic data on homosexual violence against children and inter-gay battery.

An example of this suppression is the aggressive cry of "hate crimes" surrounding the heterosexual killers of Matthew Shepard and Barry Winchell (who was allegedly gay, but that is for another column) while covering up the barbaric murder of 13-year-old Jesse Dirkhising by two trusted homosexual friends of Jesse's mother. Young Jesse did not survive being "bound, gagged ... repeatedly raped in a sado-masochistic ritual." What of the rape and decapitation of Adam Walsh, carried out by two homosexual "lovers" or the castration of a Tacoma, Wash., boy a few years ago by a paroled homosexual child rapist?

Why was the vicious 1997 kidnap / rape / murder of 10-year-old Jeffrey Curley covered-up by the media until the recent $200 million lawsuit filed by the boy's parents against NAMBLA, the homosexual group urging sex with boys to the two killers -- both gay boy "lovers"?

Knowledge of such gay violence is critical if parents and the polity are to make informed choices about leaving children with homosexual acquaintances or authorities. Gay violence is not exclusively directed against children -- "hate crimes" are commonly committed against one another. In their well-documented book, "Men Who Beat the Men Who Love Them," Island and Letellier exposed a cultural pattern of inter-gay violence. At least "every 90 seconds ... a gay man is abused" by his "lover."

The homosexual authors confirm common sense. "(G)ay men truly ... have a proportionate share of violent individuals in their midst who bash other gay men (and boys) in startlingly high numbers. The gay community needs to recognize that wealthy, white, educated, 'politically correct' gay men batter their lovers."

How many of these "lovers" -- boys and men -- die of their wounds? We'll probably never know.

Island and Letellier report that establishment and homosexual media agencies will not print the truth about inter-gay violence because "It would be just plain bad press for gays and ... all bad news needs to be suppressed." Lloyd agrees, saying of boy-abusers individually and in groups, "(The police raids) usually go unreported by the press. Both wire services, the AP and UPI, file the stories to newspapers, radio stations and television stations but always with the cautionary headline, 'EDITORS (NOTE NATURE OF THE STORY).'"

Lloyd adds, "Editors do ... and often elect not to use them." The press suppresses police reports of raids and arrests of men preying on boys.

It is little wonder that movement homosexuals are waging a vicious censorship campaign against Dr. Laura, including threats against her life. Too many of her guests could be like her. Some would even be homosexual whistle-blowers, daring to confirm the darker data of gay-on-child sex abuse and self-inflicted inter-gay violence.

Such a child-protection expose cannot be tolerated by gay-tolerance spokespersons. It would indeed be "just plain bad press" were parents alerted to the increasing gay danger lurking in all their children's lives.

Child molester leads 'gays' in Scout protest; the convicted pedophile insists BSA should admit homosexuals

A coalition of groups protesting Boy Scouts of America's policy of not accepting homosexual leaders and members chose a convicted child molester to lead it.

John Hemstreet -- an alcoholic, former Boy Scout leader, former priest and convicted child molester -- told WorldNetDaily he is an example of the type of person who should be permitted to be a Boy Scout leader. Indeed, he said he was a great scoutmaster.

President of the Toledo, Ohio, chapters of Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) and Scouting for All, Hemstreet organized a protest demonstration on Monday in front of the Erie Shores Boy Scouts of America Council.

About 25 protesters took part in the Toledo demonstration Monday morning. It was part of a national protest scheduled for 36 locations, although, as WorldNetDaily reported, many were attended by only a handful of protesters and some targeted locations had no protesters.

Hemstreet says the Boy Scouts of America should not prevent homosexuals from serving as leaders or members. He was not hesitant to admit his past problems and said it was appropriate for him to be a scoutmaster.

"The thing that I did seven years ago is a horrendous thing. I'm not denying that. Nor am I denying that I did it. I was arrested. I was arraigned. I did go to court. I was sentenced. I served my time and I am off probation," explained Hemstreet.

Hemstreet said he considers the activist work he is doing to be a form of community service to "give back" for the crimes he committed. He said he has paid his debt to society and he is now trying to do something good.

Although he was never a Boy Scout as a youth, Hemstreet served as a scoutmaster and a Sea Scout Skipper for various troops between 1964 and 1987 while he was a priest in the northwestern part of Ohio. He was awarded the Silver Beaver award for his years of service -- the highest award BSA gives to adults.

Hemstreet admits to being a homosexual and a child molester. In 1992, he confessed to molesting a 10-year-old boy.

"I have done a terrible, horrible disservice to a boy. I have done a disservice to my community, and I have a moral and civil obligation to try to give something back to my community. PFLAG is one of the things I have elected to do -- to do community service," explained Hemstreet.

He said that while he was a priest and a scoutmaster he did not make his homosexuality public, and he says he did not molest Boy Scouts.

"At that time I was mainly in denial, and I certainly wasn't coming out," said Hemstreet.

He did not respond to a question regarding whether homosexual men are more likely to be child molesters than heterosexual men. Nor did he directly answer whether BSA should exclude homosexuals in an effort to reduce the risk of molestation to scouts.

He did admit that the background of potential scout leaders should be checked, but he said a man should not be prevented from serving just because he admits that he is a homosexual.

"My feeling at this particular point is that scouting is a valuable organization. It has done great things and has taken many young men and turned them into self-sufficient, worthwhile and contributing members of adult society. I think an organization, like the scouts, need to be concerned with a person for who they are as a person, not what they might be. I don't think one's individual sexuality, whether real or perceived, has any effect on the worth of a person," said Hemstreet.

"The crime that I committed was committed after I, kind of, retired from the active priesthood. It was not related to scouting at all -- I was drunker than a skunk. Not that that is any excuse. I was in a very heavy part of my drinking career at that time, but that is no excuse," admitted Hemstreet.

Hemstreet said he presented Toledo BSA officials with a petition asking them to "buck the national council" and issue a statement that their local council will abide by a non-discrimination policy.

He said that he did not personally speak to any BSA officials, but that he received a message informing him that the local scout executive was personally in favor of the policy banning homosexuals. Hemstreet said he had little hope the local council will go against the national policy.

Hemstreet also presented a petition to the local United Way, a major source of donations to local Boy Scout programs. Although many local United Way chapters have removed the Boy Scouts from the list of organizations to which they donate, the Toledo chapter conveyed a message to Hemstreet that the Boy Scouts will continue to receive donations there.

"The head of the United Way here in Toledo said their only concern was the organizations they fund do not break any laws. The Boy Scouts have broken no national, state or local law. Therefore I guess that's as far as that's going to go," said Hemstreet.

Hemstreet and his group are also asking individual troops to establish their own non-discrimination policy and to so inform the local and national councils. So far, he said, no troops have done so. Hemstreet admitted he does not know whether a troop would lose its charter if it acted on his request.

Despite his failure to obtain support from the local BSA council, the United Way or from local troops, Hemstreet said he considered his protest to be a success because the 25 protesters who showed up were more than he expected.

He also doesn't think his past should reflect on the efforts of his group -- or his cause.

"Whether it's going to have any effect on the results of the rally, I don't know, nor do I know what my future in PFLAG is," he said. The protest was sponsored by Scouting for All, PFLAG and the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network, he said, and had an "informal" sponsorship from the American Civil Liberties Union.

PFLAG has issued a policy statement that says, in part: "Parents, Family and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG), an organization dedicated to the support of families, deplores the Boy Scouts of America's practice of excluding gay youth, leaders and volunteers from its program and services. We condemn any policy that would not allow gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgendered individuals to fully participate at all levels in any activity within scouting."
